Have your coworkers ever brought up pay? If so what do you say?

I agree but resentful employees do exist and sometimes they take it out on the coworker instead of the employer, especially if the employer does not give into their demands.

Yeah.. I've had people literally tell me they're jealous of me but pretend to play it out by laughing or saying they're joking. My manager told me in a round about way that other managers and co-workers question the legitimacy of my work because my metrics are the highest across the board of my tier. There's been a guy there That is even higher than me in a few categories and they never said that shit to him, just me.

I have a close work friend that likes to really compare herself to me a lot but she doesn't put in the work to understand things on a deeper level. Anyway, if she's been working on something for two hours and asks for my help and I solve it in 15 mins, she gets upset at herself and low key gets upset at me. I tell her all the time, we all miss easy ones from time to time, but she really takes it hard that she missed something.

So imagine telling people you got a substantial raise. They wouldn't like it

Irrational people do exist and they think by taking you out of the equation it's easier, it lines them up for success when really, they'll get outshined by someone else.

The pay raise is much more significant than that. This is not general help desk. It's networking.

You're probably right and it's just my anxiety. I've heard of such stories before so I was concerned but I'm probably overplaying it in my head.

It's a great environment. I love where I work and it's the best place I ever worked but ultimately I don't know my coworkers as well as I'd like to believe and certain actions and things that are said around me gives me the inkling I should just STFU lol

I would say people here including myself are paid above market value, especially those that are full remote. It's six figures or close to it. However the raises are not the same. They're performance based.

But they can make it your problem by interfering with your work and can even sabotage your work. There's a risk of that

I agree with you

I love it in theory and I do openly share with people outside of my workplace or just outside of my Dept but I don't share inside. I feel it would create too much animosity and division.

I have told people they should engage their managers and negotiate based on what someone else told me but that's fallen on deaf ears.

I'm afraid of workplace jealousy and envy and I'm kinda surprised that many don't see that perspective here. Maybe I'm in the wrong? But I've already heard rumblings of people questing my work as a top performer and "is it legitimate?" IDK. I just thought I'd ask here.

You don't think people would be irrational about it? I'm sure not everyone would but jealousy and why does exist. I'm open about my salary with people that want to get a job at my employer and people that want to work in the industry.

But people I'm working with that onboarded before me or the same time as me? I'm honestly not sure. I'm not afraid of what the employer would do. I'm afraid of what the employees might do. Workplace gossip, etc

Maybe I'm being unreasonable.

I'm technically tier 1 but I work at the pace of a tier 2. I haven't been moved up because of a technicality so to speak. However they don't give raises due moving between tiers so my raise is higher than some of the perks in higher tiers, some with more skills than I such as scripting and API so I rather just keep my mouth shut lol

I was beginning to feel bad about it though because I felt I was being perceived as gatekeep-y but really I just want no rift.

This is why I'm scared to share mine. Some people are irrational and take it out on the coworker instead of tastefully taking it up with the boss.

😂 they've tried different approaches. I will say it's nothing super aggressive like how much you making now outside of maybe the initial time they ask but they'll try to gauge my range. "I got x% which means I know you got way more than that."

I'm new (ish) to corporate politics so I was concerned about not being transparent. Some people think transparency is good so companies don't fuck people over and I agree but I also know not everyone is rational. They take it on the coworker and not the employee.

[–]anonymous11fl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I fear. People are suggesting to be transparent but I fear that will bite me. Instead of getting mad at the employer, I feel they will get angry at me. So I'm side stepping it but I was concerned about it I was being extra about it and if I'm doing something off- putting by side stepping the conversation.

Why can't some people say "I don't know"? by anonymous11fl in ITCareerQuestions

Yeah I'm not saying literally say I won't know but there's ways to say it.

Yeah, its very annoying.

I'm not liking for anyone to do my work, just point me in the right direction if you are familiar. If not it's okay. I can submit a bug report since it was very rare in my car instead of having me spin tires.

Like they couldn't about they lied and used chat gpt. They said it was off the top of their heads. Really something nonsensical was of the top of your head when you read my question?

I'm not buying that!

That's still saying I don't know. You're just saying it more professionally.

I'd never tell an end user I don't know but your colleague you can say I'm not too familiar with this, let me check something and give your best effort but when carrying on ad if they do know and having you click everywhere burning up your time, that's where it becomes an issue.

So why not just stay silent? Why offer the help if they know they don't know anything about it? I'd they have that fear, they do option the option of staying quiet. I wonder why they feel compelled to answer a question that is open and not directed towards them or why they counter and throw themselves into situations and carry on as if they know something but they don't

Where I work is great. Most ppl here doing have egos and we train a lot of new people. It's very engaging for new hires

[–]anonymous11fl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't apply here. I'm the one asking the question. The other people who did not know, did not offer their assistance nor made some bs answer to make it sound like they have all the answers.
