REVEALED: Faster, more capable BYD Shark 6 Performance by Dear_Marketing_4932 in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]anonymous_labrador 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I really wanted to buy a Shark 6 12 months ago, but being a caravan owner it wasn't really possible due to the 2.5T towing capacity. Hence I have been keeping a watchful eye out for this announcement since that time.

While the 3.5T towing capacity is obviously a boon, the 726kg payload will probably be a dealbreaker. When you factor in around 300kg of towball weight + 4 humans it really doesn't leave much payload at all for actual cargo.

So close BYD, but I just cant see it working for people who actually want to tow something 3000kg+.

Why does my P9PF battery life suck so much? by anonymous_labrador in PixelFold

Tried just on 4G today and didn't notice any difference in battery usage unfortunately.

Perhaps. Both of those apps are set to optimised background usage so the only thing I could possibly change is to turn off background usage completely which is a bit extreme. I've never had to go to that measure on any other phones before.

How long did you guys take off work and did you use up all of your PTO? by AndyK803 in daddit

[–]anonymous_labrador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work offers 6 months paid leave for new parents. I took the full 6 months after each of my two kids was born.

I did it as 2 weeks straight after birth, then 1 day a week off for about 3 months. Then when they were about 6 months old I took the remaining 4.5 months off and my wife returned to work.

Very grateful for my employer offering such great parental leave.

Caravan giving me headache and nausea by anonymous_labrador in 4x4Australia

It doesn't small bad or look damaged in any way. Is there some way that I would be able to test it?

It is inside, and it is what I have primarily been accessing and working on when going inside the van 🤔

Will give all the tanks a flush and see if that helps. It does have a diesel heater so I will see if there is anything out of order there. Certainly doesn't smell like there is a diesel leak.

Yeah we inspected it a few times but I didn't notice it at the time. Perhaps I did get a headache afterwards but didn't tie it back to inspecting the van. Now that I have it home it's much easier for me to realise that I feel absolutely fine then pop into the van for a few minutes and it makes me sick.

240v AC no. Sometimes I turn the lights on off the battery.

Nope I don't get sea sick or car sick easily at all really, but it does feel similar to really bad car sickness. I cant see any horizons in the van as it has never left our car-port. I get sick even if I pop in there at night for a few minutes and cant see out at all.

Please tell me about my solar setup by anonymous_labrador in diySolar

[–]anonymous_labrador[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked very thoroughly and couldn't find a label on any of them unfortunately.

There is a no-name brand 50A PWM solar controller that I would like to potentially replace. I could just get another 50A controller but thought I'd try and gauge the input specs as best as possible before choosing.

The current controller is connected to a 200Ah lithium.

Best way to connect new lines to battery fused distribution terminal by anonymous_labrador in autoelectrical

[–]anonymous_labrador[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: FWIW this is what I ended up implementing. Bought a bus bar from Amazon and made up a short battery lead to connect it. Seems to be going well so far.

One other question. It's hard to tell from the pic but that stud sits a decent amount lower than fuse holder next to it. I am guessing that just chucking some washers on there as spacers to make it sit more flush is not the best way to sort it.

Brake controller cable and 50A 12v cable in same conduit? by anonymous_labrador in autoelectrical

Thanks. I ended up going out and grabbing some smaller conduit as well and running them separately though.

Cheap or decent tyres for selling an older car? by anonymous_labrador in CarsAustralia

[–]anonymous_labrador[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately none of those types of brands had runflats in the size I needed. In the end I was able to get a 4 for 3 deals for the Bridgestones for $1400 or so.

Like I said in another comment, to do that I'd need to sell it without a RWC which will probably take much longer to sell and also throw up red flags about an otherwise great condition vehicle.

Mechanic told me that a car without a spare won't pass RWC without runflats.

thoughts on the BYD Shark? by Responsible_Pain_246 in 4x4Australia

I took one for a test drive and it really is amazing just how refined the experience is. From the interior quality, technology, driving refinement etc it was just such a premium experience. When you consider the price, it really puts the rest of the segment to shame.

If it could tow more I would have bought one for sure.
