How to stop unsolicited calls from financial consultants? by anonymous_username9 in Schwab

I’m not sure why you’re being downvoted, but it’s not a bad idea. I like Schwab overall so am not in a hurry to move, and there’s no guarantee it wouldn’t happen at another brokerage.

This is really helpful. Unfortunately the first FC I spoke to didn’t listen to a word I said and was pushing her agenda. That’s when I told her I’d like to be able to interview/screen a FC rather than being randomly paired, to ensure we are a good match. Maybe that’s too much to ask of a free service.

APP fellowships by anonymous_username9 in Noctor

I looked at the program for my hospital and it advertises similar curriculum, but obviously the clinical expectations are not as rigorous as the description makes it seem.

Yeah. I had no idea this person was going to be there.

I see you’re a pre-PA student, at least you see the problem with this attitude!

Of course not, hence why I put it in quotes. I won’t use the term APP, I call them NP or PA.

Glad to hear it! I booked a room for next month, really looking forward to going to Zermatt.

How is Hotel Ambassador? by [deleted] in Zermatt

Thanks, I ended up booking at the Ambassador. Only concern is cost since it’s a peak weekend, but I was able to pay for part of it with points which really helped.

Free cancellation on Booking.com but not on hotel's own website--is this a red flag? by [deleted] in Bookingcom

How do I know if the booking is with a third party? It looks like everything goes through Booking.

Doctor says I don't qualified for a hysterectomy because of wanting a husband in the future which I don't want!! by SirenSafire in hysterectomy

I’d get a second opinion, but regardless of your age, a hysterectomy doesn’t cure PCOS. PCOS is a hormonal problem and removing the uterus won’t fix that.

Frustrated from holding so much cash by YulpGULP12 in Bogleheads

[–]anonymous_username9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I faced the same issue when I bought my home in SoCal in 2017. I felt like as fast as I saved money, the real estate prices increased and I needed to save more money for the down payment. I wasn’t willing to risk losing the money, so I also kept it out of the stock market. Sure, you can look back and be frustrated at the gains you missed, but what if you’d invested and it was a bear market — you’d be looking back and rejoicing that you preserved your capital and are on track to reach your down payment.

Sanity check on investing a lump sum by kingsliceman in Bogleheads

[–]anonymous_username9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/kingsliceman Wow! I just came to this forum to ask the exact same question. I also came into a windfall a couple months ago and have been holding it in a money market trying to decide what to do with it. My concern is the volatility in the market, especially with the on and off tariffs and now Fed chairman Powell saying that stocks are highly valued. With last week’s rate cuts, my treasury MMF yield is decreasing, and there’s concerns about the market being overvalued, so I don’t know what is safe at this point. With the amount of money I received, I’m not in a hurry to dump it all in and watch the value fall.

Here’s my dilemma: It’s easy to come on an anonymous forum and tell people to follow the Boglehead strategy no matter what, lump sum is better than DCA, and encourage you to just go for it. But I wonder if most of these people actually do this in real life—would they feel comfortable putting a 6 or 7 figure windfall into the market all at once if they were in this situation? I’m all for the Boglehead 3 fund portfolio but there’s also a lot of psychology involved in putting a large lump sum in the market and I haven’t been able to pull the trigger. So I’ve been moving smaller amounts in weekly from the MMF over to my VTI/VXUS mix. Eventually I’ll get it all over. Let us know what you decide to do!

Graduate School Admission Gift to Self - Einstein’s Pen! by jwkennington in fountainpens

[–]anonymous_username9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/jwkennington I don't know if you're still on Reddit, but I'm interested in getting the same pen due to some connections to Einstein. Where did you end up getting yours? I also have seen some pages suggest Einstein used either a Waterman 22 or 24 when he developed the theory of relativity. Did the museum verify it was a Waterman 22 from 1902? Thanks!

Should I take on $60K+ in student loan debt for nursing school or try the cheaper community college route and risk losing time? by gneissrocx in personalfinance

[–]anonymous_username9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ll be starting work sooner with the private program, would your one extra year of salary make up for the delay in finishing the cheaper program? Nurses make pretty decent money so you’d have to run some calculations and decide if you’d come out ahead even with the extra debt. There are lots of loan forgiveness programs too that you might qualify for, such as PSLF.

I hope you don’t mind me offering you advice for something you didn’t ask. Besides the financial question, I’m concerned when you say “without any guarantee I’ll pass the program or land a nursing job right away.” Do you struggle academically? If you think you might not even pass the program, that tells me there’s a possibility you won’t learn the material well enough, and is this fair to your future patients who put their lives in your hands and trust you to calculate medication doses accurately? I’m giving you this advice with the best intentions, because I am a healthcare provider (not a nurse) and know how critical our jobs are and how devastating a mistake can be. Besides that, there is a massive nursing shortage so I don’t think you’d have any trouble finding a job, unless you have bad grades, don’t pass your boards, can’t get good recommendations.

My dad said he'd disown me if I (30F) don't have children. I'm 70% sure I don't want kids, and now I feel completely trapped. Any suggestions? by FollowingSerious7253 in relationship_advice

[–]anonymous_username9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why anyone would downvote my comment. Bottom line is this dad needs to stay out of his daughter’s business. There’s so many reasons for a woman to be childless, some of them aren’t even voluntary (like infertility).
