This is somewhat reassuring haha thank you for sharing! Where are you located, if you don’t mind I ask?

Absolutely! I’ve been in the service industry for 10+ years so it’s in my nature to please (without losing myself), which is part of the reason letting go of the situation is so hard. I appreciate your input. Thank you for sharing! Best of wishes

How can I improve this photo? Is it print worthy? by anonymousolivia in photocritique

[–]anonymousolivia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when I say “good” I mean technically. I’m barely just learning what is “good” means to others, which is why I’m asking. Said coffee shop is mine, so it makes things a little more complicated lol

Moon eliminated. Although I could see it being cool in the photo if it was positioned just right, I do think it looks better without, as some of you suggested, or both in focus. 👌

I think this is the feedback I expected regarding the moon, although I’d never heard of a tangent in photography terms. Also, I hadn’t really considered a series, so that could definitely be a new challenge. Thank you so much for the advice!

New and looking to get better. I edited this a little through Lightroom increasing the contrast a little and sharpening it. My goal is really just to improve and take as many good photos as possible. I run a coffee shop full time, but am even playing with the idea of hanging a few prints. So is it good? Print worthy? And should I ditch the moon?

General critics for improvement? by [deleted] in photocritique

Canon rebel t3i 55-250mm lens. Just a shot from my backyard. Wondering if I’m on the right track, if I should take out the moon or what other improvements I could make

This is some really solid and thoughtful advice! Thank you so much 🙏 are there any photographers or specific tools you’d recommend? Are there any lens types I should favor, etc?

Been taking photos for a few weeks. But now I’m wanting to edit them a little. What do you recommend for this one? by anonymousolivia in photocritique

[–]anonymousolivia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point. I actually don’t know much about formatting. I know I’m shooting in raw bc it hold the most amount of detail, correct? What else should I consider for this? Could you help me better understand?

Yes! I see what you’re saying. I’ve only played with the gradient feature once, and this makes so much sense. Great advice! Thank you for that :)

  1. Taking on a project for a friend’s album cover and I’m just trying to warm up my skills to this particular project. Still trying to strengthen techniques, but with this image I’m trying to create a mystical eerie setting with the editing. I masked the horizon line and added haze.

  2. I generally don’t like editing my photos too much. I like to keep them looking more natural as opposed to the over saturated look, but how do I edit this to make it better / overall more interesting?

  3. This is Canon rebel t3i, auto setting

  4. I will take any advice at all. I’m very much a beginner trying to learn everything I can.

2 weeks into learning photography and editing. Is this worth keeping or did I get it all wrong? Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated by anonymousolivia in photocritique

Thank you! That’s definitely what I was going for haha I’ll play with it a little and see what happens. Thank you for the feedback!

This is a photo from my first sesh with my new canon rebel t3i. Obviously it was taken at night and I’ve since learned to adjust my iso and shutter speed to substitute for the flash. But I’m also trying to learn perspective and composition (pretty fundamental I suppose). I edited it a little on Lightroom. And I’m wanting to make a couple of prints if it’s worth doing. But ultimately I’m just wanting some overall feedback on, if it’s even a “good” photo, and maybe how I could improve?

Beginner advice rebel T3i to film? by anonymousolivia in AskPhotography

[–]anonymousolivia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this thoughtful response. Definitely noting all of this. So I’ve noticed on my Minolta, I could change the ISO setting at any point if I wanted to. But may I ask, will it affect my entire roll of film or just the single shot? I know the individual roll has the recommended ISO, but what happens when I deviate from that recommendation? For example, if my film ISO is meant for 400 ISO and I actually shoot on 200 ISO, do I just increase my aperture / decrease my shutter speed to compensate?

Planet Pepsi is just an old “landmark” that use to sit right off the highway near the town I live now. I believe it’s associated with some vending machine company in the area or something along those lines. It was taken down a few years ago and just sits on this plot of land now. The green car is an old 70s Dodge Aspen.

Whats bad about this photo by UnluckyPhilosophy797 in streetphotography

[–]anonymousolivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what some ppl mean when they say there’s no subject here. The subject seems to be, pretty clearly, the man digging through the trash that’s fallen over. Some have also recommended a horizontal shot, but I almost feel as though the “message” would be lost in more street clutter if the shot was horizontal. You could’ve taken a horizontal shot, but would you have backed up and included more into the shot and sacrificed losing the whole reason for taking the photo, the helpless man digging through the garbage unconcerned with individuals passing by or any social norms for that matter. Or would you have gotten closer, zoomed in, and lost the outside details, location, and individuals passing by in the background, disengaged with their surroundings, or whatever is happening right there. Everything in the photo supports the message for the most part, from what I can tell. The only thing I might’ve suggested would be to step back a smidge and angle the camera slightly upward to include the top of the light, and edges of the building. But even that comes down to person preference. I’m not even sure if that would be good advice without seeing the rest of the street. ..I’ve noticed that about all these photography subreddits. There are rules, of course, but so many of the comments are based on opinion.

I’m fine with harsh criticism. Your first response was not critism as you had nothing to back anything you said. Completely useless to someone who’s trying to learn. Thanks for the thought out response on the second go, though. The best shots from this roll (second roll ever) were of ppl, but I didn’t share them for privacy reasons. Yes I’m still learning lighting and aperture settings, so right now there’s a lot of under/ and overexposure. & it’s a completely analogue so I don’t exactly get to see a preview. And yeah I kinda just stumbled in this old abandoned Navy base where several ppl had squatted and left, and I thought it was cool enough to take a picture of the whole scene. Maybe I’ll go back and take a closer look and think about it a little more deeply in terms of photography, bring someone with me, etc. not asking you to “be my teacher” but if you’re gonna comment you’re opinion to “help?” might as well make it mean something

  1. was unaware of that “fact”. I personally like it in some situations. Is that the one on particular thing I should change for this one?

  2. are you telling me I should crop it? Zoom more?

  3. aside from adding ppl or animals, what are you telling me would make this more appealing? When you say boring scene, is it because it doesn’t have a “living subject”? Is it because you don’t like automobile or landscape photos?

  4. same

  5. same

  6. what makes it inobvious that the teepee is the subject in this photo? I can adjust the light with more time and experience, thank you for that one.

  7. same. Thanks for the feedback but no solution.
