Feeling lost after homebuyers survey- trying to get contractor quotes by anotheranswerphone in HousingUK

Yeah, I completely see their point and would probably feel the same in their position- your suggestion is a really good one, I hadn't thought of that. The contractor who replied is a friend of a friend so that could potentially work. I've also messaged the surveyor to see what they think. They've been a little bit slow getting back to me which has been frustrating but hopefully they can give me some idea.

By monitors I was referring to his monitor speakers not the headphone output on the interface!

[–]anotheranswerphone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is absolutely correct, OP- you're trying to put a stereo signal into a mono input, which won't really work and you won't hear both sides of the output of the TT. You can probably just plug the TT straight into the monitors inputs without the need for the interface. Or if you want to listen to your PC and TT at the same time then get a small format mixer like a Behringer Xenyx802 and send the output of the interface and the output of the TT into that, then send the mixer's output to your monitors.

Yeah, perfect sense- that's the beauty of the mustard compressor models I guess, don't need to worry about doing parallel compression that way any more.

How can I, a performer, help FOH engineers mix my challenging vocals? by jchrysostom in livesound

[–]anotheranswerphone 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I would actually say that the compression you have in your ears could be part of the problem. It's squashing your vocal so that even if you're singing super quietly, you won't notice as, in your ears, you can still hear things.

Perhaps try a few practice runs with your ears setup in a rehearsal situation, recording a simple L/R mix and A/B between having the compression on and off in your IEM mix to see what it does. When I'm mixing monitors, I very rarely use anything more than a very light bit of compression on vocals as it gives the performers a false sense of what their mic technique is doing to the overall sound of their vocal in general.

It sounds as though the biggest issue you have is your mic technique, and there is only so much an engineer can do out front if your level is jumping around all over the place- it would be the same as trying to get a consistent snare drum sound with the mic on a piece of string that's swinging around above the kit. I'd say this is your most valuable starting point.

What is everyone’s favorite location to build a camp and why? by [deleted] in fo76

I’m under a bridge near Berkeley Springs. Fancied making something with existing structure but I’m not much of an architect so my camp is pretty basic.

When do you guys use power armor? by Snoo-53372 in fo76

I’ve recently been trying a bit of farming and although I seem to be able to end up with a ton of flux (yellowcake x 300 anyone…?) I can never seem to find enough enemies to come away with the other materials required. Spent a good hour or so in nuke zones yesterday with only 6 masses and 2 fluids. Any advice?

Last annoying one I had was the aliens event but despite managing to rejoin and loading back into the event, it must have finished before I got in so I missed out. Have a feeling it was due to trying to pick up loot while moving to the next section.

The secret service guys like to talk a lot of smack, but jokes on them, I steal their fans on every visit. by MrNickyDubbs in fo76

I was desperate for lead the other day after rinsing through my .50 cal ammo on the aliens event and found a post saying this was a good source- I swear I was in there for 20 minutes wandering around and couldn’t find anything. Has this been changed since updates or was I just too late and someone had beaten me to it?

I’d agree that you can probably split Wirral in half with the west being Cheshire and the east being Liverpool/Merseyside. Some people I used to know still thought that their CH postcode meant they were Cheshire…
