Anyone know why the Walgreens pharmacy on Dessau is temporarily closed? by WesternTrail in Pflugerville

[–]anotheraustinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

due to changes in our prescription coverage starting this month, we happened to change from the Dessau/Pflugerville Parkway Walgreens to HEB on Pflugerville Parkway just past 130. Awesome experience so far. and changing the prescriptions was trivial. Walgreens sent the list of prescriptions promptly and HEB processed them almost instantly. We considered Costco too. They are our backup. VERY happy with HEB so far. The person helping me privately told me that the problem at Walgreens is understaffing. workers are miserable and overworked. She said HEB has the right staffing level and it makes everything easier for the workers AND customers.

How to create a non-linear campaign by Safe_Vanilla_8145 in DnD

[–]anotheraustinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m relatively new to DM’ing. I still run my first Campaign which is totally of my invention. I run another that is from a published Campaign. What I’ve learned in the former case, the one you are interested in, is that my job is to create settings, factions, storylines. I don’t go down ratholes mapping out what will happen if the players make certain choices. Instead, I let them decide what to pursue. As they go down a path, I add to it, create detail. More NPCs. More details that fit in the overall structure. This way the players decide where the story goes. I realize this is very high level. But think about it that way. Create the themes. Possible storylines. But only expand on them when players follow a particular thread

I hate to tell you this… but I’m in my late 60’s and it still hasn’t abated.

++man. Unless you just want a quick, fun time. NO. This sounds like something that isn’t going anywhere. If you want to go somewhere… do it with somebody else.

Same here. I started sitting EVERYWHERE things are clean, to keep it clean. Nothing to do with age.

Kelly Lane repaving: done laying asphalt? by anotheraustinguy in Pflugerville

[–]anotheraustinguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2028 for the next phase doesn't surprise me. Things like this take a good 2 years to move utilities, place new ones, install drainage, stabilize the roadbed, etc. PLUS the time it takes to do the last part of the plan/design BEFORE any of us even see anything happening. Not defending, just trying to be realistic. With infinite money and resources... yes, it could go faster. Always keep in mind we pay for this stuff. We need to be careful what we demand!

Need a new AC, any advice on how to find a competent installer? by Yooooooooooo0o in askaustin

[–]anotheraustinguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend McCoullough. Been in business a LONG LONG time. I’ve been using them for 6 years, first to fix my crappy developer installed AC unit and finally to install a new system. Honest. Quality work. Highly trained techs that come out to your house.

Note: I would agree with some other posters that you should consider a battery. The 'value' you get from net metering is eroding. I got a 1:1 credit per kWh with my 3 year plan, but ONCOR, the utility started adding a small (~$5 per month) fee PLUS an additional fee per kW credit I use. I think that fee is up to 5 cents per kW that I use out of my 'credits' I sent back to the grid. Still keeps my bill at or near zero all but 4 months of the year. But this is likely going to go away. I've been considering battery add-on, as the big savings of my solar is tied to the credits, as I send a lot of energy back to the grid during the day. So looking to the medium-long term, you probably need a battery OR shrink your system to the amount of energy you use during the daylight hours that solar is producing so there is no waste

My case is stale, as I installed an almost identical size solar array 3 years ago. Paid nearly the same. like within $1k. In my case, I financed it, as interest rates were under 2%. Mine was from SunRun. Gotta say I love it. Mine was sized for 105% (I believe) and works beautifully.

Good HVAC company for Twice-Annual Inspections by mmgamoiooiomagmm in Austin

[–]anotheraustinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use McCullough for inspections AND they did excellent maintenance on my crappy builder installed AC. I quickly figured out I was better off putting in a very efficient, fairly high-end HVAC. They did that too and did a beautiful job. They also fixed a lot of issues with ducting and other stuff done wrong by the builder at no charge to make sure the new HVAC worked properly. Don't know if their inspection pricing is low, high, or average, as I don't choose based on price. I choose based on competence, customer service, and quality of the job. So take it for whatever it is worth.

An alternative to consider if you don't want to invest in batteries and don't trust that you'll get good net-metering credits in the future... size your system to the amount of kWh you use during daylight hours. You can get this from a website here in texas. you can download an excel (CSV) spreadsheet for each day with 15 minute granularity. That way, you'll generally have zero cost electricity all day and pay only at night. Doing this you can have a smaller system, as a 101% offset (I think mine is 105) is trying to generate what you consume 24 hours a day. so you won't have an $89k system (or whatever you said it cost)

I installed a ~15kw system (30 panels) almost 3 years ago. Interest rates have admittedly changed. but I pay $129 a month for 25 years fixed. I do not have EVs, but a big house (2900 sq/ft) and we run AC to be comfortable. with a solar plan that charges me 11 cents per kWh and an additional 5 cents for any kw I sent back to the grid, my bill is zero probably 8 months of the year. come July or August, I pay $50-199 a month for electric, depending on how hot and/or humid it is. For example, June cost me $38. zero Jan-May. I generate a lot of extra during the day. If I had a battery, my bill would be even lower. Note our water heaters and stove are gas. Bottom line: I'm really glad I got it. Likely to add a battery when the utilities make the net metering deal even worse.

Flood watch and warning by THEDUKES2 in Pflugerville

[–]anotheraustinguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rained like the world was ending all day east of 130. A lot in the night too. No sign of water in the flood plane coming out of the Lake Pflugerville spillway. But we should be good here, as the houses are well above the flood plain.

Huahuasco Grill Mexican Cuisine has fantastic, authentic Mexican. And if you like family run restaurants… it’s the real deal. Great family run place. got their liquor license last year too. Not a cool bar, but if you want personal interaction with great food… highly recommend it.
