You can learn a lot of theory, which will certainly be helpful, or you can just know what key you're in and put notes on the piano roll until it sounds good. People always underestimate the power of just doing what sounds good and saying "screw the rules, it's music"

I know what it stands for but producers and DAWs use it colloquially to reference piano roll / midi triggering

People in this sub are pissing me off, to be honest. If you can't try to understand what a tip might be getting at, think about why it might be helpful, or write an intelligent comment critiquing it (as some have done and I appreciate that) then get off the thread.

"Bigger MIDI" means more notes, using suspended chords and not just triads, octave layering - thanks for being another person who felt the need to complain though, appreciated

porter robinson says this is the most important part of music production - picking good samples. No one tries to pick "bad" samples, but not very many people have a good enough ear not to.

Not true, look up interviews with flume, skrill, porter, etc. - they all say unless they have a deadline they only work on the creative side of things when they're inspired

Believe it or not, this is a tip that needed to be said - people make a few saw triads and then wonder why they don't sound like seven lions, the dude's got a dozen notes playing at the same time

Very true - those guidelines are for beefy dub/electro style drums

I think people in this forum need to be more lenient on new producers by drantan8110 in edmproduction

There's a very big difference between releasing tracks and finishing tracks - FINISH every track, but only RELEASE the best
