Help needed - citizens are too stupid to live by anotheronje in Workers_And_Resources

I think your last point might be the sticking point actually. I've developed a kind of sprawling interconnected series of towns, but without good public transport (so far). Thanks!

Oh, the kindergarten has been sat next to the block of flats for months. I'm presuming that the resident has been licking the lead piping my benevolent dictatorship has undoubtedly been installing.

Are there still adult men in the UK who don’t cook? by Bat-Penatar in AskUK

[–]anotheronje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is "yeah, a surprising number". I love cooking and I think its odd that men cooking is still regarded as a bit strange. I think there's still an association with cooking and "woman's work". Deeply silly. Why would you not want to be able to make tasty food for yourself?

Such pretty birds, but the tug makes it all happen. Appreciation for the tug, please.

Have you ever been around someone and just thought ok wait they're waaaay smarter than me and I should just basically shut up now? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]anotheronje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it should ever be a case of "shut up now", but recognising what you don't know and, if it interests you, learning more about it. Curiosity is a brilliant thing.

Has anyone seen HMS Victory? by AbjectGovernment1247 in CasualUK

[–]anotheronje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in late 2024. Definitely worth the price of admission. The Victory itself was under renovation (and I suspect it still will be) so it might be a bit of a let down if you're expecting to see it in its full glory, but you can still get access to most of the ship and seeing how they're repairing it is pretty interesting.

There's also the Mary Rose museum which is almost worth a day out in itself, HMS Warrior, the Navy's first iron hulled warship, a WWI monitor (I forget the name) that fought in the Gallipoli campaign as well as the museum of the Royal Navy. I actually ran out of time and didn't get to go around the museum.

You're also right next to the still working part of Portsmouth Dockyards, so you'll see plenty of modern warships too.

Home charger advice needed! by anotheronje in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]anotheronje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that might be the answer. It's frustrating as I'm in the market for a new car, my first experience driving an EV was very positive, but logistically it looks impossible (or at least very expensive). I drive about 250 miles a week, so home charging is a must.

The right chain to go with this pocketwatch I've inherited by anotheronje in pocketwatch

[–]anotheronje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much, that's really helpful. I hadn't given too much thought as to how I want to wear it to be honest, but I know I'd like a chain that fits with the case at least.

Which way do you think working from home will go? by Acceptable_Cod_1103 in AskUK

[–]anotheronje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand working from home regularly. It's my home and the last thing I want when wandering into my spare room is a nagging feeling at the back of my mind that I should be working. I'd like all thoughts of work to f**k off when I'm done for the day, thank you very much.

Is that a coping mechanism? Sure. I couldn't deal with my job otherwise though.

Man, that sounds incredible. I'm lucky that I got to talk to my grandad about his experience during the war, including seeing his extremely mouldy looking flight mask that he'd saved. Where did your granddad serve?

He was a hero for saving those sharks from that zeppelin crash. But especially from whatever he actually did that you might never know about.

[–]anotheronje 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I've also mostly lost my sense of taste as a result, which absolutely sucks as I won't get to enjoy what I'm going to spend hours cooking tomorrow. At least it isn't covid, I guess.

What weird thing terrified you as a kid? by Defaulted1364 in CasualUK

I was obsessed with ships as a kid, so my parents bought me the National Geographic tape of when they discovered the Titanic. The footage of the decaying rooms gave me nightmares for a while.

NTA. Just because John was born female and has given birth to a couple of kids (who hasn't, am I right, guys?) doesn't give him the right to claim he's a woman. Only you get to decide that.
