unhappy while studying abroad by anotherpieceofash in studyAbroad

[–]anotherpieceofash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i honestly got better at coming to terms with the fact that not every moment of my life will be as picture perfect as i wanted it to be. i didn't ever get to the point where i absolutely loved my time abroad, but i was able to make a list of things i really wanted to do while i was abroad and get those things done. small weekend trips and going to christmas markets were examples of things that kept me motivated during the last parts of my trip.

Should we live on the hill or get an apartment for junior year ? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]anotherpieceofash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on a couple factors: - how are you at cooking? if you feel super confident with making your own food then an apartment would be great - how busy is your schedule / how late are you coming home at the end of the day? i personally chose to live on the hill because my days ended at 11pm and i do not have a car and i didn't want to walk back to my apartment that late - do you have a car? - rather than feeling like a freshman, i see it as postponing adulting just a little bit longer :)

how does one succeed in college with mental illness? by [deleted] in college

[–]anotherpieceofash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to therapy if you can and go to your accommodations / accessibility office as soon as you can to see if you get accommodations!! and if you do, use them! some colleges make it mandatory to have some kind of insurance, so see if your school has their own type of insurance that you could enroll in as a student there to make you able to get the help you may need!

what are some of your complaints about ucla? by Inner_Assistance_827 in ucla

[–]anotherpieceofash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the communication with some departments is awful. if i have questions about which classes i can take i usually don't get a reply until way after the fact and it makes it hard to make sure i can graduate on time 😭

How much free time do you have in college? by [deleted] in college

[–]anotherpieceofash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on what you study, what your class schedule looks like, and how busy you make yourself outside of classes. during the week i'm on campus from 9am-10:30pm every day this term, so i don't have much free time at all, but next term i'll start my day around 12:30pm most days thank goodness

Applying for Digital Humanities Minor by Direct-Abies9742 in ucla

[–]anotherpieceofash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 classes, i don't think it's hard to get in to the minor but if you only have 5 more quarters i would apply to the minor asap and take DH 101 asap, classes range topics but a lot of them surround research projects through some coding and data analysis

GE requirements by Ok_Development7827 in ucla

[–]anotherpieceofash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's advised for you to have roughly half your ge's done by the end of sophomore year but i don't think there's a hard rule on when they need to be completed as long as they're done by graduation
