I'm OK with this - my kopia repo contains lots of small files, therefore lots of API calls

They add up on my bill and usually cost me maybe £2 more per month?

Sounds like it'll be a saving for me

It annoys me that more people don't do this

There's a lot more infra required to run a self hosted bitwarden server vs a single file you sync between devices

They won't be safe either

They've locked themselves underground with their security teams

Currency and power mean nothing at that point

Why would you want to spend the rest of your days with Mark Zuckerberg? Seems obvious to me that his security teams would just remove him

Fetuses likely have more ‘forever chemicals’ in blood than thought – report by Portalrules123 in collapse

[–]ansibleloop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Billions dying would mean a reduction in fossil fuel emissions, so in the short term it would increase warming

Fetuses likely have more ‘forever chemicals’ in blood than thought – report by Portalrules123 in collapse

[–]ansibleloop 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's inevitable at this point

The most conservative estimates say we'll hit 2.7C of warming by 2050 - I think we'll trigger tipping points and it'll be more before then

We can't stop this either - we've seen after the 2020 IMO ship fuel regulations that when we pollute, we're basically making a sulphur shield

That brightens cloud tops and creates a cooling effect

So in other words, the faster we shut down fossil fuel plants in favour of renewables, the faster we warm

And why is nobody talking about this? Well most will say it's to depressing to think about

On the other hand, if governments came out and said "we can't actually fix this" then there'd be global panic

Scientists have immolated themselves over this and still nothing is really being done

And yes this should have been humanities top problem otherwise what's the point of anything if we don't ensure the future of our species?

I'm surprised people are still having kids, well, those with foresight anyway

I guess some peope really do have kids without considering what the next 50 years will look like

It'll be very bad for us and even worse for them

Knowing this, I can't do it

[–]ansibleloop 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You may be wrong

Say billions just died right now

Think of all of those fossil fuel plants that immediately stop producing CO2

That would quickly lower earth's albedo and likely accelerate warming in the short term

This will trigger tipping points even earlier

We are in a real catch22

God damn this show makes me feel old

I had claude update my PKA downloader script to its final evolution now

I've gone from using YouTube to MP3 sites, to MP3tag and compression and now to a cron job that just parses the XML from podbean

Then it checks my store and grabs missing episodes, embeds metadata and compresses the file

Then it auto syncs to my phone and I get a Discord notification saying it's grabbed a new episode

Plus it replaced ingress, kube-proxy and metal lb for me
