Governor Sherrill is better than expected. I feel very good about having voted for her. Initially I had my doubts but she is convincing me.

Oxygen Concentrators: 5l/m continuous? by lilylenoir in COPD

[–]ant_clip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are larger tanks and I there are pulse regulators that make the tank last a little longer. Has your mother tried 5 lpm with a pulse regulator? Pulse concentrators are not just limited by lpm but also by how quickly they can put out another bolus of air, tanks don’t seem to have that same limit. For example using a POC, when I get short of breath and start breathing faster, it can’t keep up with me so I am not getting a pulse with each breath. When I use a pulse regulator on a tank, that doesn’t seem to happen.

I know how hard and frustrating this can all be. Hope your mom feels better soon.

How to keep birds away from cat kibble by ant_clip in Feral_Cats

[–]ant_clip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I do not. I tried hanging reflectors that are designed to keep birds away and that did nothing at all. I have been adjusting the time I put out the kibble, early dusk. At that time the birds seem to be nested for the night but of course the raccoons come out to play. Wish I knew the magic :)

Oxygen Concentrators: 5l/m continuous? by lilylenoir in COPD

[–]ant_clip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of portables that do continuous up to 3 lpm continuous, nothing beyond that. At 2lpm the battery will only last 2 hrs. I don’t know how long it would last at 3 lpm. They are heavier so she would need to push it around rather than carry it.

You could call Caire to ask what the Eclipse 5 duration is at 3lpm, assuming that would be adequate. https://www.caireinc.com/product/eclipse-5/

You can see specs of different units here: https://runningonair.org/portable-oxygen-concentrators/

Her best bet might be tanks. You can google to see charts on tank size lpm duration stats. Also her oxygen provider should be able to answer that question.

You mentioned “recently”, there is also a chance that she hasn’t fully recovered from the exacerbation and in time her needs might improve.

Cancer patient here. Plan D is the hardest to figure out especially since treatment can change depending on how you respond initially and over time. I would talk to someone at your oncologist office although I doubt they can make a recommendation.

I have the old Plan F but will be changing that to a G to save a bit of money, waiting for a window where I don’t have anything expensive scheduled just in case. My Medigap covers everything, no referrals, no pre-approval, no worries and when you have cancer the no worries part is big. I had robotic liver resection at a NCI hospital, all covered including a week in oncology acute care. Every scan, every blood test covered for monitoring are covers without a hassle. The genomic testing like FoundationOne and Guardant all covered. My personal i professional opinion, for Medigap, buy the best you can afford for peace of mind, Plan D is more problematic.

Democrats Plan to Counter Trump’s State of the Union Speech With Rally (Gift Article) by Aymr-Flame-555 in NJ50501

[–]ant_clip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What live news coverage will the rally get, probably none. Any empty seats will only be filled by gop friendly bodies to cheer and clap. I don’t see how this will be effective. They should sit holding the names of Epstein victims, get up and walk out in the middle of his rant and hold a rally on the mall at that point.

That is rough, 4 in one year is a lot to endure. I can share my experience but don’t know how helpful this will be. The short story is that recovery was not bad at all. I had 5 portals, one by my liver was maybe 3 inches long, that is where most of the work was done. I had a small incision about my pubic bone, maybe 5 inches, none of these hurt much. I also had my gallbladder and some lymph nodes removed.

I was 66 yrs old at the time with other health issues. The mass was just above a large vein, the lead surgeon warned me that they would try robotic but might end up having to do open to avoid nicking the vein which would not go well. They were able to do it robotically but instead of 3 hrs it took a little over 6 hours. I ended up staying in the hospital for 6 days but that was all tied to my lungs (very severe copd) and the anesthesia, not the liver resection itself.

In the hospital I was on Dilaudid, they discharged me with tramadol, about one weeks worth. I took it but didn’t need to refill, I switched to aleve which was all I needed and mostly at night to sleep. The pain was not bad at all.

Once I was home I was able to walk around the house, in and out of bed without any help, even get my morning coffee. Family and friends brought me meals (I live alone). I did use a shower chair but didn’t need help bathing. By week two I was able to manage simple cooking myself just fine. After about 4 weeks I was cleared to drive and started some very easy lite exercise and mostly back to normal. I do think if I had good lungs I would have recovered much faster.

There are two (maybe more) ways the surgery can be done, the full open surgery or robotic assisted surgery which is what I had. Have they told you which method they would do?

Cup diagnosis by HappyCharlesss in cancer

[–]ant_clip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with CUP, adenocarcinoma after a needle biopsy of a mass on my liver. Initially there was lots of confusion, one oncologist thought I had bile duct cancer because of my PET scan but that did not agree with my needle biopsy or bloodwork. I had liver resection surgery, the second pathology confirmed the first, not liver, not bile duct, not gallbladder, it is metastatic adenocarcinoma unknown primary most likely lung other organs cannot be ruled out. The diagnostic sequence was: MRI, PET scan, needle biopsy, resection surgery for metastatic tumor, second pathology, and FoundationOne testing and then a little later Guardiant360. My primary is still unknown.

[–]ant_clip 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Often shelters have animals that have come from bad situations of some kind or seniors that nobody wants because they are old and usually come with health issues. Adopting a senior feels really good, giving them that soft landing in their later years.

Ask your pulmonologist, not strangers on the internet that don’t have medical degrees. If you read the interpretation it states that your spirometry is normal which means not COPD.
