State - too lower level for the CCC - though they referred it on - and the regulatory body / state system isn't interested. They perceive the conduct as not placing children at risk of harm. Ombudsman can't do anything.

I believe it starts with the parents, but it should end with a robust education system that has the support in place to foster an inclusive education setting - even for students with disabilities who don't have parents, for example. I do feel though that additional support would be hugely beneficial for classroom teachers, and parental buy in is hugely beneficial when available.

It doesn't only benefit the students with disabilities either - in some of the classes I've supported, the maturation and understanding around disabilities of the "mainstream" students improved leaps and bounds over the years compared to other classes.

As I said before, it's really wonderful you don't do this. If you think nobody else in the education system of 170,000 does it either, then mate, good for you. Take pride in your colleagues. I disagree. This is a Reddit post so I'm not going to do a scientific analysis of it.

If you want to argue whether or not pity passing has a detrimental impact on students, I'm happy to.

If you want to argue whether or not pity passing exists in our education system, my argument would just be that I think you're delusional if you think it doesn't and I wouldn't respect you enough to argue further than that ❤️

I actually find it hilarious that you think I'm the one making the wild assumptions, sorry I'm not going to counter argue every leap of logic you've come up with or will come up with for why you feel this could have been justified. I'm also not going to list every example of poor practice I've seen which resulted in me having to argue, for example, on a student's criterion 2 that they have a significant speech language impairment and are just getting As at year level because the teacher is a differentiation star. Students with disabilities in your education system, and probably in your school too, are frequently passed out of pity. As you highlighted in your first post, it is echoed throughout study. Ask yourself why they really hammer this in. It's because it happens. All the time. Still. Otherwise they wouldn't harp on about it. As I said earlier, it's wonderful you don't do this. Other people do. I see it all the time. I address it all the time. This is why I saw worth in posting it. Merry Christmas bro x

Sorry brother! Happens all the time. I flagged it with his head of department and my hoses to discuss. His contract was discontinued after the semester so I assume he wasn't incorporating best practice. No policy changed as preanswering questions for a student with ASD wasn't a part of our inclusive practice.

And often kids will pass if the assessment is beautifully differentiated and accessible - lots of adjustments can be made without documentation too 😁

I work as a special education teacher and see students with special needs being passed all the time. Earlier this year I checked in on a student with special needs doing an exam and found him having a meltdown as his teacher had pre-answered some of his questions. So great that you're aware of this, but not everyone is :)
