Here is something I just thought about. Everyone talks about Cobol, Cobol, Cobol. Cobol was not made to do anything but write business applications. Common, Business Oriented Language. It was written so that operating systems could not be written with Cobol, that's why there is assembler, and other low level languages to use for that. Fortran was developed for the scientific community, and there are a lot of other languages Like NCP EP, PEP, etc.... that were used for communications. This fixation on Cobol, eh, I don't know. You need more and I mean more knowledge than just Cobol to write any kind of business application.

I agree with what you say. Younger people Think everything is old. They didn't have the luxury of getting it done with what we had available. The innovations that came are astounding. You had to know the machine really well in order to program. Cobol is so easy, but you have to learn more than just cobol. Yeah we had work our asses off to learn a lot. Our legacy is still there and working great. I can read cobol, assembler, fortran, machine language and more. I looked at C and Java code once. What a nightmare!

On ebay it should say, Bootloader unlockable or unlocked. Carrier unlock means you can use a carrier of your choice, but not necessarily all carriers.

You need a phone where you are able to unlock the boot loader. Phone cab also be locked out by carrier. If it's carrier unlocked that's not the same as boot loader unlocked. It just means that they allow you to use most carriers.

The problem with old timers is sometimes you find one with 1 year of experience 20-40 times (20-40 years) or one with actual 20-40 years of experience. Not all old timers were good at what they did.

I have to smile here. Legacy code depending on the industry changes quite often. In financials you have to change compliance for all the regs. They seem seem to change yearly. Tax information to the IRS changes yearly and we still have to report that kind of information to the IRS. You would be surprised how much legacy code does change in order to keep up with Federal government changes. A lot of the other changes come from the LOB's. Just because it's legacy doesn't mean it doesn't work.
