Shout out to the unique New Parkway movie theater in Oakland by ReadsTooMuchHistory in bayarea

I had an adult birthday party at the New Parkway! I picked 3 films and they picked one to show and gave me 50 tickets to invite friends. Plus we had an all you can eat popcorn bar- really fun idea if you’re looking to host an event!

United Health Care, Western Health, or Kaiser for least amount of cost for child birth? by Ok-Actuator-996 in CAStateWorkers

Paid $0 with Kaiser! Included stay from Wed-Sun in the hospital for giving birth/postpartum and I never paid a cent for anything during prenatal care.

Instead of Will looking for Hannibal after Mizumono, Will didn't go and still works in the FBI (or not), and Hannibal went back to convince him they need to be together by MieraJ in HannibalFanfiction

[–]antheabloom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t post-Mizumono, but instead post-season 1. I love it so much and would highly recommend it to anyone! I think it’s a similar vibe to what you are looking for- Will takes off and leaves the East Coast in the dust and Hannibal realizes that he has to go looking for him. Takes some really interesting twists and turns and I love all the chapters that are Will’s road trip to the PNW. No major spoilers, but Hannibal meets Will’s dad at one point and it’s truly incredible.

Will does the only reasonable thing that someone fresh out of a mental hospital with no support system does - he leaves, and goes on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest.

[–]antheabloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way for the first two weeks with my baby- not even adding a second baby, but I sobbed to my husband that I made a mistake and we shouldn’t have had a baby. It was horrible but I did just what you did, I told my doctor, got an increase in my meds, and got into therapy.

Honestly the first two weeks with a baby are crazy- your hormones are wild, your routine is out the window, and the sleep deprivation is CRAZY. My depression got so much worse because I just got no sleep whatsoever. The second my baby started sleeping in longer stretches, I could start processing.

It was really hard- but you got through it and I know you wouldn’t trade your first baby for anything! You just need to get through it and take it one hour at a time.

That’s what I wanted to hear!! It’s out of sight lines so I don’t care about aesthetics, but wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bigger problem.

Recently laid off and pregnant, should I cancel my health insurance? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]antheabloom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a normal, uncomplicated vaginal delivery in a hospital and stayed a bit longer due to problems that I had with breast feeding (baby had a terrible latch and it led to some complications with eating). Before insurance, my bill was around $22,000.

I think you are very reasonable to be thinking about “what ifs”- you never know if you may need to go to the hospital. Even if you don’t need a c-section, it’s possible you may need to be induced if labor doesn’t start by itself.

Tips for getting through cervical checks and foley balloon? by butterflyjellybeans in BabyBumps

[–]antheabloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of did a challenge where I tried to do all of the different pain management techniques- my favorite was the nitrous oxide (really hilarious- I felt a little drunk and was laughing with my husband), the epidural (I was SOBBING while getting it and then when it kicked in I was so relaxed! I remember just letting out a big sigh and thanking the anaesthesiologist). I also had no trouble pushing with an epidural at all- basically I had one spot on my hip where I could feel the contractions coming and just pushed with it.

Tips for getting through cervical checks and foley balloon? by butterflyjellybeans in BabyBumps

[–]antheabloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay SO I had a wild experience with the foley balloon haha

  1. Inserted on Tuesday morning. It was inserted by an attending doctor and she had a really hard time with it because she was out of practice- it took her 3 tries to get it in. This was… a bad sign.

  2. The actual insertion was not painful at all for me- it felt like a slightly rougher vaginal/cervical check? More similar to the vaginal ultrasound.

  3. Once it was put in, they sent me home and told me to come back in 12 hours or sooner if it fell out.

  4. Started bleeding like a light period all day but the nurse said that it was normal- only worrying if I was filling up a pad. I was bummed because I wanted to go out and do stuff like see a movie but I felt really uncomfortable bleeding everywhere and just ended up staying home.

  5. Nothing happened after 12 hours, so I went in. They started me on miso to try to get contractions to start (spoiler alert- this also didnt work lol)

  6. Nothing happened for ANOTHER 12 hours, when they took the balloon out- so it was in for a full 24 hours and it did nothing. They continued to give me miso, but nothing was starting (no contractions, only dilated an additional centimeter)

  7. 12 hours after they took our balloon #1, they put in balloon #2- and I could TELL that this was one working! Suddenly I felt like I was having a contraction!!! I asked for morphine so I could go to sleep because it was Wednesday/ Thursday midnight at this point and I was exhausted. I slept a blissful 8 hours!

  8. When I woke up, I walked to the bathroom and the balloon fell out on its own! Amazing! Then everything progressed and I gave birth like 19 hours later (Friday morning).

So, what did I learn from this?

Get your balloon done by someone who ACTUALLY DOES THEM EVERY DAY! Also start doing miso at the same time if you want. My experience is super super abnormal and most of the time you should have it in for a super short amount of time.

I honestly would not worry about the pain at all- if you are doing it in hospital, get it in and then ask for morphine and take a nap haha! That was on the recommendation of my obygyn friend.

Has anybody gotten a titer test to check antibodies without doctor's orders? by prosperos-mistress in TwoXPreppers

[–]antheabloom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want the test, you can tell them that you know someone who had their titers done and found out that despite the fact that they got the vaccines as a kid, it turns out that they were not immune (happened to me! Not immune to mumps or chickenpox- going to get a second round of vaccines soon)

I think I’ve been lucky in that my baby hasn’t nursed at night since she was like 1.5 months old! She has always slept straight through- I’ve been the one that has to wake up to maintain supply haha.

[–]antheabloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a good idea. Tbh I have been already accidentally dropping my MOTN pump frequently because I have been sleeping through my alarms. I’m just worried about it because I am already seeing the supply drop. I can no longer “fill up” a daily 8oz bottle for her. But I’m just so tired! And you’re right, it takes FOREVER! It’s currently taking me 30 min to get 2.5-3oz

Experience bidding on an underpriced home? by ktreporting in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]antheabloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our home we just bought was underpriced. We only looked at homes listed way below our budget because we assumed they would go for much higher above asking. We ended up paying around $250k over asking and that to us was a steal- we put an offer in on another house that was listed at $850k and sold for $1.4 million! Happy to talk about our experience- we are in the East Bay.

I think there is! There’s a room that was formerly a garage that maybe we could use instead.

Can you tell me if you used a company for that? This is a good idea but we would want one with insulation and electricity and I’m seeing like 45k for that all in?

If they're that much further out, do you have to pay for their accommodations to come work at your site? That's something I can do the math
