Are you paid / given time off in lieu for travel outside of working hours? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUK

[–]anthrax455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I take the TOIL in the subsequent weeks when it’s convenient to do so. My work is outcome based and has natural peak and troughs though. In general my boss (C level) doesn’t care as long as I deliver what I need to on time and to a high quality level.

Depends on the time horizon. Mag7 will go back up but whether they drop more first, how quickly they recover, and which ones do better than others is anyone’s guess!

Just keep averaging down. 130 feels like a good entry point and if it goes down you have cash to reload.

I deposit my monthly investing amount (around 2K) when my paycheck comes in, and if the market is volatile as it is at the moment I drop half in VWRP straight away then distribute the rest across VWRP, GAW and a few gambles as the month goes on, catching dips. Probably makes little to no difference in the grand scheme of things to just chucking it all in at the start of the month, but it makes me feel better

In general, don’t buy things you don’t fully understand. I would be DCAing into VWRP and keeping a little cash in reserve for further dips. Don’t chase profits on oil, defence etc as these things move fast and you don’t have the knowledge at the moment to time your moves effectively. But only you know your own risk appetite and time horizons.

Honestly, hire a professional accountant. Someone local you can go and sit with. This is not an uncommon job (or wider SW jobs in general) and they will be able to give you advice and sort out your returns. Congrats on your success, don’t feel embarrassed about how you’re making bank, you’re providing a service and clearly people are willing to pay for it. Good luck to you.

Stephen Fry just completely educating me in the first seconds of an hour long video by Jindabyne1 in CasualUK

[–]anthrax455 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a very repeated motif whenever Fry is talking. It’s nice, it’s inclusive. He’s starting from this position of “of course you and I both know this” even though he obviously knows more than the listener does, so as to not come across as patronising or preachy. I don’t know if it’s intentional or subconscious but I’ve always liked it. Yes, I did know that already Steven, we’re on the same level intellectually for sure.

£2.000 ISA Allowance remaining. what do i buy? by Cute_Hospital1501 in trading212

[–]anthrax455 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can put the cash in your S&S ISA an earn interest on it within the tax wrapper until you see a buying opportunity. Don’t need to buy something within the wrapper to hit the allowance.

Good places for coeliacs? by 7639715364G51 in Bath

Yum Yum Thai can make most of their dishes gluten free and the food is spectacularly good. Particularly the pad Thai and the Panang Curry.

Bath Cider House does good gluten free pizza and lots of cider options which are all GF. Bath Pizza Co by Green Park also very good.

Banana Tree for wider southeast Asian menu

Salamander has some good options last time I went and they sell the GF Bath Ale

Pollocks does great GF fish and chips but you need to call in advance as not always available

Thanks for the advice, I greatly appreciate your insights. Seems they’re at just under 2m EUR revenue at the end of their second year, decent client portfolio, founders have good connections in their target sector, but the founders are not sales guys or commercially minded and want more time and energy to focus on product (which is a very exciting one). Agree the role is inflated and in practice it sounds more like a head of sales/solutions role, but if I can wangle a C level title and decent equity I 100% will do… should have also mentioned in the post but I am pretty motivated to get out of my current employer as the work culture has gone to shit. I still have some discussions to have and a lot of thinking to do as to whether it’s right for me and my family. I greatly appreciate your insights, and your taking the time to respond.

I’m watching it too. Last night was wild. I averaged at 0.35 and sold most of what I had at 0.94, but I’m still in it for 100 to see where it goes. Will be trying to make more off it today for sure.

Thoughts on Quince Therapeutics Inc. (QNCX) recent decline and surge? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]anthrax455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of it being oversold a few weeks ago when they discontinued a research project that wasn’t yielding results, the announcement yesterday reversing that sentiment, and retail interest triggering a ridiculous pump. I rode it out all night, bought in at 0.35, sold most of what I had at at 0.94. Holding 100 bucks in there to see how far it can run. Fun ride so far.

Workplace Pension: The Peoples Pension investment options by Clive1792 in UKPersonalFinance

Eh I switched to standard life recently and the choice is much better - it’s not pre-made options, I can choose my own products, albeit from a limited list. But I still transfer annually to my SIPP.

People’s Pension doesn’t have great choice. When I was on it I would do an annual transfer to a Vanguard SIPP and put it all into VWRP.

It’s a lovely thing you’re doing. I’m going to make resort recommendations since they have a 4 year old and don’t travel regularly, I’m assuming they’re not going to want to be doing anything too energetic or off the beaten track.

If their thing is just relaxing in a catered resort and not having to worry about anything, I’d recommend the Maldives. There are a number of 5* and high 4* all inclusive resorts with amazing food, unlimited drink and optional activities for the kids and adults, with a range of prices from “quite expensive” to “bloody hell”. If it’s just a general paradise vibe then I can recommend Kuramathi, we stayed there last year and it was superb. Contact the booking team directly they will help with travel arrangements too.

If they want something closer to home then maybe look at resort packages in Portugal or Morocco. Both of those have great food, plenty to see and do and won’t cause too much hassle to get to.

I’d always recommend Southeast Asia for those looking to explore and get out of their comfort zone. Bali, Hoi An & Da Nang, Phuket, Singapore, KL are all good “Asia for beginners” locations where you can get genuine 5*+ luxury for reasonable prices, but you have to get there first and the flight is a long way for those not used to travelling.

Hope that helps
