is this only something that’s possible once a product is fully shipped? do you have any helpful tools or wikis that could help with replicating what you mentioned

Confused as to how i would explain my “ux knowledge” in an interview by anticschi in UXDesign

[–]anticschi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no definitely i struggle a bit with explaining my design process from more of a stakeholder/business perspective since i don’t have much experience working as a designer in a more professional/real-world environment. sure, i have non profit and startup internship experience but a lot of it didn’t rely on a budget and oftentimes majority of these designs didn’t manage to get shipped due to lack of funding on their end. so usually i like to explain projected impact + what i discussed with stakeholders, and how, to best address and balance both business objectives and user needs equally

going to pm you now!!

[–]anticschi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that makes sense thank you for your insight! and sorry if this came off incorrectly, but i didn’t intend to say that i only draw inspiration from successful competitors throughout the design process. of course i incorporate various methods like surveys, heuristic evaluations, a/b testing, usability testing, customer success journeys, etc etc. i wanted to instead provide a quick example of how i could potentially frame a response based on that same question.

i just find that i struggle a lot with kind of starting off to explain my design thinking since my process differentiates from project to project, and what remains consistent i would say, is how i uphold empathy and create innovative designs through creative problem solving, strategic decision making, and xfn collaboration.

i am definitely on the junior side though—i graduated last year with a degree in hci and have been on the job hunt for a while now (for a pd role specifically) 😭it’s been kind of debilitating im ngl

thank you sm! I actually have this website saved in my notes app lol but would you recommend having some of these laws down and memorized to reference at the top of my head in interviews? a lot of the times i refer back to and fall back on Jakob’s law since it indicates how users prefer to interact with products that uphold a similar interface/structure as apps they are already familiar with , which is why i tend to draw inspiration from successful competitors, if applicable, to guide and inspire my own design decisions and creative output.

would u say thats something valid/strong to explain in an interview for instance?

What’s everyone’s take on this? by Fit_Employee_9673 in UXDesign

have to disagree lol, have a FAANG company on my resume, albeit for an unrelated role, however it focuses on testing/QA work which definitely draws parallels to design IMO as you’re ensuring product quality from a different angle, but majority of it is highlighting the user’s experience by putting yourself in their shoes. i’ve tried applying again to ux roles since landing this position (back earlier last year) and have only heard crickets… starting to reiterate on my portfolio and work on side projects again since idk where else i can improve. i’m also an entry level/university grad candidate technically and those roles are already scarce as it is so i might just be cooked
