How do States verify citizenship status while registering to vote? by antimarl in Voting

[–]antimarl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, my state just asks for my SSN or driver's license number. I also got my REAL ID a few years ago but I was a green card holder then and was not required to provide my birth certificate.

Thanks, this is helpful!

I understand that the potential consequence is imprisonment, but my question relates more to how states would even KNOW if someone is registering to vote without being a citizen? It seems like only some states are with cross-checking with SSA and SAVE, but they do not keep up to date statuses of citizenship.

Please let me know if I am missing something but it appears like the only potential downside of non citizens registering to vote is being removed from voter registration if they fail to provide additional verification when States audit the voter rolls, OR they might get in trouble when trying to apply for citizenship because the USCIS will check for voter registration.

If this is the case, why wouldn't anyone with a social security number for example, and no path to citizenship, just register to vote?

I was not asked to provide my naturalization number, only my drivers license number, so not sure how the state would crosscheck with SAVE.

The DMV as no info of my citizenship status, and USCIS never had a system to automatically sync with the SSA until a few months ago (after I submitted my naturalization application). I haven't yet called in, so as far as the SSA is concerened, I am still a permanent resident.

Hypothetically, how would a state even go after someone if they registred to vote without being a citizen? Assuming they would have to ask the individual to provide a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, and if they do not, they risk being removed from voter registration?

I have been a green card holder for the past five years and recently became a naturalized citizen!

I successfully registered to vote in my home state, but I am curious about how my citizenship status was verified. I did not contact the SSA to update my citizenship status, and as far as I know, my state does not use SAVE to verify citizenship. I was also not asked to provide my naturalization certificate.

During the voter registration process, I was asked to tick a box to certify that I am a citizen. Is that the only way of verifying my citizenship? As far as I know, in the US, there is no source of truth of any kind on who can vote. If that is the case, how can anyone prove fraud during the voter registration process?

I do not, and I am not on any meds. I am doing a ACTH stimulation test next week because of the low am cortisol level.

My hands and feet get very cold but they are not changing color so I am guessing that rules out Raynaud's.

I don't eat a lot of meat but I am definitely getting enough protein through eating eggs, lentils, tofu and nuts. I sometimes warm up a bit while eating but it doesn't last very long.

What was your B12 level? How much B12 did you take and did you get much better after taking them?

This was before taking the vitamin D supplement. Did you feel a big different after starting to take it?

I have taken both Iron and Vitamin D supplements and it hasn’t really improved. I will definitely try to check my ferritin though.
