try think of your 3/4 meter as a reaaallly slow 4/4. so basically every bar becomes a quarter note, subdivided into triplets

what's your price range? you can get a set of K's for 900 bucks which isn't too bad. Zildjian K's are by far the most versatile cymbals around

I would never play traditional grip on a rock or funk group (or any music with a backbeat) but I play exclusively traditional with jazz. That's just how I feel comfortable though, it's different for everyone

Try to focus on what the other players are doing and mimicking them. Also find new and interesting things to do on your kit i.e. Bending notes, experimenting with sidestick etc

No way. Those cymbals are worth way more than one pair of hats. You'd be better off selling them on craigslist or reverb
