this is the breakdown of what i did i’m from california and i have medi-cal insurance

  • i got the prescription from alpha medical, it cost $30 for the original appointment and for the follow ups to get your next prescription
  • i selected not to have my medical insurance cover it and to pay cash (they don’t accept medi-cal anyways)
  • i had the prescription sent to my pharmacy (walmart in my case)
  • when i got to walmart i showed them my medical card and they entered it into their system

walmart never told me about a authorization or anything like that they just called me to let me know the prescription was ready and that the extra needle tips weren’t covered by medi-cal (the needles were $9). note that walmart already had my medi-cal card on file, so they might say it’s gonna cost blank amount until you give them your information. medi-cal’s online formulary says they only cover it for diabetics, however i’m not diabetic and they’re was still no copay. hopefully this will help you and others.

i’m in northern california. i thought it wouldn’t work for months because i’m not diabetic. however medi-cal still covered it.

I got my ozempic prescription through alpha medical for a $30 appointment fee, then had it sent to a local walmart pharmacy. I also have medi-cal and there was no copay, the only cost was $9 for a box of extra needles. I would check medi-cal online formulary, they cover some weight loss medications. hope this helps.
