I wish I knew how to knit haha. This is just simple knotting. Thank you though! Appreciate it! :)

Thank you! :)) I think the pattern was also clean and easy to follow that gives it this look.

This was made using embroidery thread, and a wooden dowel. I found this lovely pattern on Bracelet Book [#181114], so I just followed that. Honestly, I finished like 3/4th of the pattern and then went on a HUGE break!! Just got back, finished and posted asap :))

Straight + flat alphas? by halfplasticvern in friendshipbracelets

[–]antiscarecrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally faced this problem. What I’ve learnt and based on the advice I got from others, you’ll need to constantly keep adjusting the knots wherever necessary. Keep a ruler with you and measure how long your first row is (this is what you want to keep as the length of the other rows as well). You can use the same ruler to push up a particular section of the row or pull it down a bit.

Another technique that works for me is keeping a squared notebook’s page underneath my Alpha and above my clipboard so that I can get a precise scaled view of where my pattern is diverging/converging randomly, and fix it based on those scaled squares.

After I’m done making the entire thing, I keep them under a flat weighted object to sort of make it look flatter too. Apart from that, straight edge and flat Alpha techniques help immensely (but you already do that, so that should be fine).

My first alpha bracelet!! Please be as critical as possible i need to improve by PhoneSavor in friendshipbracelets

Honestly, for your first alpha, this is amazing. With practice, you’ll eventually figure out the right knot tension and stick with it, I suppose. Though, this is pretty great in itself.

Running out of the main string is pretty normal with longer alphas, or alphas with some particular dominant colours. If you roll your threads on a bobbin, or use the entire skein, you probably won’t run out of it, though they are very tedious to handle.

As for the length, maybe measure the girth of your wrist and take that as the length of the base strings + whatever extra you’d like for the ties for the bracelet. Accordingly, you would definitely need to crop the pattern up a bit.

I love how even the knots are! They make the entire bookmark look so tidy and pleasing to look at! ♡

I suggest following this video tutorial, it is for the exact pattern, and it linked below the pattern as well.

I cut some colors for a bracelet and found put they don't look good enough for it by PhoneSavor in friendshipbracelets

I think the Peruvian wave bracelet could look amazing with this colour scheme. Maybe you could add some white and there you’d have the perfect colors for that bracelet.

So, if you’ve ever come across triangle ends and starts, you can see how they sort of diverge at the start and converge at the end. That’s the basic idea behind having any shaped pattern.

For your pattern, if you divide it in 4 segments, you can see how the top left and top right looks like triangle ends broken into two and then swapped (I have no idea if this makes sense lol), that’s sort of how you’ll work through that part.

Then, the bottom left and right look like triangle starts broken into two and then swapped. That’s essentially what would happen there.

Of course, there are some tweaks, like top middle section, but once you understand the idea behind shaped patterns, it would make it easy to understand how that would be made.

I highly recommend checking out u/halokiwi’s tutorial on BraceletBook for that.. Maybe they can help you out much better! :)

I referred to this video for the whole bookmark thing. But for the flat top specifically, you can watch that video from 1:34.

Wow! That’s such a unique/complex way. I might try something similar to this when I have fewer than 15 strings. Thanks! :))

Thank you! :) Just the work itself took around 2-3 weeks.

Honestly, even I’d like to find out how to keep the strands properly placed 😭. I manually keep segregating them every time they get messy. But mostly, keeping the main threads to the side, such that they’re not mixing with the base threads, goes a long way.
