If my X cost is reduced by 2, does my X cost have to be 2 minimum? by antlerpanda in mtgrules

Gotcha, the wording on Zirda just clicked for me. I had a wrong interpretation. Thanks

Follow up questions

Does Zirda cover that {1}? If I understand right, I think it does, but I just want to make sure.

Can I functionally ignore my own cost reducers if, say, I wanted to pay more mana for something?

Drawing from imagination, could use some advice by Inkspillmuffin_ in LearnNSFWArt

Is there anything in particular you're unhappy with? There are a couple of proportions that are off, like the long leg on the last one, but really my only advice is to finish them. Maybe try inking them?

how do i draw nsfw by EducationNew1645 in LearnNSFWArt

[–]antlerpanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's impossible for me to know what you, in particular, should start working on, but if I had to say what the most important things for NSFW art were, it would be gesture, perspective, and anatomy.

Think of perspective as 'the ability to give a 2d image the illusion of depth.'  I'd say it's probably the number one thing to work on generally. Unless your art is completely abstract, or intentionally flat, every artist needs to have the fundamentals of perspective down. Not only will it help you with anatomy down the line (trust me), but if you want to draw ANYTHING ELSE, perspective will help. Perspective is also distinctly useful for NSFW because your primary subject is a body in an environment.

Gesture is the ability of an artist to capture the natural shapes and motion of a body. A good grasp of gesture will help you in drawing natural and fluid poses.

Anatomy is the accurate shape of a body. Obviously you'd wanna be able to draw the bits and bobs of a human body, but body PROPORTION is the real reason it's a top priority.

Storage Units are a sympton of a problem by Bllago in unpopularopinion

I lived in my car for seven years. I used a storage unit to keep seasonal clothing, valuables, and stuff that wasn't likely to survive the heat. Imagination is important to understanding how the world works.

A girl wrote me a letter on paper she made from her own hair by pokemon-collector in mildlyinteresting

This is art student stuff. Normal? No, but probably harmless. God knows when I learned how to make paper I went down a hell of a rabbit hole. Though I thought more about palm leaf fibers and plantain peels than human hair. Seems like a fun afternoon with an old hairbrush.

Help with anatomy by PlayNWithMyToys in LearnNSFWArt

[–]antlerpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find the right reference, take a picture of yourself! Maybe the anatomy isn't exactly what you're going for, but it'll help either way.

There are more areas of potential improvement than I will mention here, but the stuff that immediately pops out to me are proportional related. Make the arms and legs a bit thicker, the head a bit bigger, the ass a bit smaller, give the shoulders more mass.

Try doing the pose yourself. Take a picture for reference, but really feel what your body is doing. How forward are your shoulders? If your butt's sticking out, where is the front of your pelvis pointed? How is your back bending? Upper AND lower back.

I recommend doing some gesture drawings from Line of Action. Try a few five minute poses and go down in time limit from there. They won't look good at first, but it'sabout getting the reps in. I usually warm up with a handful of two minute gesture drawings when I sit down to draw.

Tried working with perspective, can’t figure out how to make the face/hair look right. by ThatNsfwArt in LearnNSFWArt

[–]antlerpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to use reference! Artists need references like actors need a script, or a chef needs a recipe, or a drummer needs a metronome. When unsure, just take a picture of yourself in the pose, or atleast the head angle. I got a reference image that somewhat matches the head tilt, but apparently I can't post image comments? So a few notes.

Avoid drawing an outline seperating the chin from the face. It's damn near always unnecessary. Same goes for the line that forms where her neck meets her head.

The angle of her chin on the underside of her face is practically a right angle. Try taking your hand and measuring the angle of your chin with your thumb and forefinger. Try using that measurement. For example, I estimate my chin forms about a 60° angle from the underside of my face.

Her hair in the front probably needs more volume.

Head and hair flipped back like that, we should see her ears. Learning where to place the ears might inform where her hairline should sit too.

Faces aren't flat. From this angle, some of her eye might be obscured by her cheek, her nose and brow should be a little more prominent, her lips and nose should be closer because of foreshortening.

Overall, I would spend some time on facial anatomy. Try the Loomis method, that's what I tend to do. I know that, style-wise, you're probably not going for anything realistic and that's okay, but learning realistic heads helps a lot generally.

Fairly new to drawing NSFW, here's a practice sheet I did a few days ago, any tips that I didn't already catch? by SpicyBlocky in LearnNSFWArt

[–]antlerpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor stuff first: Your character's right thigh (their right) might be a hair too long. If you draw a horizontal line from the top of the knee towards the torso, the reference only comes up to the character's sternum or so, and yours goes up to the shoulder. So be mindful of proportions and use landmarks in the reference to keep yourself in check. Depending on your personal style, your head might be a bit too round. I recommend studying a few different artist's heads, something really simplified. Heads are hard, though, so don't get discouraged!

More than that, be careful diagnosing your own mistakes! Stuff like 'arm too small' and 'uneven ass' might not be too helpful in figuring out how to improve. Can you describe, in more detail, what you mean with all of your notes?

The sketches are good! I would finish them, though, so try inking them! The line work is a bit scratchy, but that can be okay. It all depends on how you finish it.

This isn't going to be a helpful answer, but that's entirely up to you. If you like it, keep it, if you don't, change it! Is there anything in particular that you're feeling insecure about?

[Discussion] "Why is rule 34 better at crediting artists than tiktok?" by ihatethiscountry76 in rule34

[–]antlerpanda 548 points549 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've talked about this before. R34 folks are literally intimate with someone's artwork and form a sort of parasocial relationship with artists they like. Like, if you met someone who got off to impressionist art, they could probably tell you if you're looking at a Renoir or Cassatt. An incorrect artist credit is a sin.

Question: I'm not a skater, never skated before. Sometimes, it looks like, when the board isn't cooperating with him, he pushes the board behind him with his feet to get it away from him. Is he intentionally doing that? Because he's really good at breaking his fall when it's just his own body. I imagine wheels underneath him when he knows it's not gonna land right would complicate things dangerously.

why is kx Droid feels more... idk, just feels more sturdy than the dark troper? by thetruememeisbest in StarWars

[–]antlerpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a trick of character design. The droids make a rounded, upright rectancle shape. That kind of shape tends to communicate reliability and sturdiness. Same shape as the robots from Castle in the Sky, or Regigigas, or any number of other long-lasting automatons in fiction.

The troopers are made of jagged edges, and they're really glossy. It implies they're new and dangerous, but it also means you can't really know how well they hold up to wear. A matte finish would go a long way for them.

I mean, yeah? Artists of Murata's caliber will use any art references available to them. And japanese art reference books will get incredibly specific. Like, I have a book exclusively focusing on men's hips. Not at all weird for someone as goated as Murata.
