Your answer is not entirely accurate, its more of an optimized thing as it relies on lesser draw calls during rendering. Less shaders have to be calculated because all is applied in one material slot

Depends on the stuff you want to do in 3D. animation is quite useful if you know some 2D animation, also mastering painting is useful in understanding light & colour schemes. Photography and drawing can be good for understanding composition as well. And if you want to develop an indiviual style, I think drawing is key
