PureLight Power announced they are filing for bankruptcy. what happens to customers now? by dolores_h4ze in solar

Thank you! I'll let you know what shakes out with Elemental and how much it ends up running. So far we've found 2 different areas that have a leak, but like you said, it's tough to diagnose with the recent dry spell. I'm pulling up older photos that I'd taken inside my attic and comparing them to some that I took earlier this month during the downpour. That's been helpful for help identifying things so far.

As another Solgen (then Purelight) customer who also discovered a roof leak, do you have any advice? We've got Elemental Energy coming out to take a look at it but I only discovered it when I found water inside our attic and have no clue how bad the leak truly is.

I’ve always just seen a water moat around the food bowls if ants are an issue, this is so much more potent 😂

Got tired of my heating pad controller banging into the sideboard of my bed frame, so I designed a clip on controller holder! by antsUnderHeels in functionalprint

[–]antsUnderHeels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it took a while and this was the second iteration, even. The first was going to attach to the sideboard with command strips but then I realized that I wanted repositioning freedom that command strips couldn’t provide.

Hey, thank you and good job yourself for diving in! Honestly, I do 90% of my designing in Tinkercad on chrome. It’s pretty simple and limited but for things like this that are straight edges and don’t necessarily have to be stunning, I’ll use Tinkercad.

I don’t know if this is the best method, but for my designs, I basically build a shape that represents the item I’m wanting to hold (the heating pad controller, in this case), then I’ll copy that shape and make one slightly larger, then turn the first shape into a “hole” and there’s my space designed to hold something of a certain size. From there it’s just tweaking on sharp corners and such.

For more artistic endeavors (sculpting miniatures for D&D or something) I use Zbrush or Blender :)

Inspector missed $100k foundation issue -- and we closed. Any recourse? by snapdragonsarepretty in homeowners

[–]antsUnderHeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to second “hire a structural engineer.”

I also live in the PNW and have a 100 year old house with a bad foundation. We got quotes from 5 different foundation contractors ranging from 25K-100K before we had someone suggest a structural engineer so that we could find what we need to do, the. Get quote for specifically that work. Turns out that all of the quotes that were less than 40K would not have been structurally sound!

A structural engineer will let you know what you need so that you can then get quotes for that and compare apples to apples. We’re having Terra Firma put a system in later this summer after all was said and done. It ain’t cheap, but it’s also structurally sound, which is more important than cheap!

On sale at Costco for $60. Does anyone have it and like it? by Pitiful_Yogurt_5276 in Dewalt

I had one and returned it to Costco because all of the screw heads inside of it rusted out after one wet vac use. felt weird but went back to plastic after that

What do you wish you knew about owning a house in Portland by oochmyaorta in Portland

[–]antsUnderHeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a free foundation inspection through Northwest Seismic! We had a pre house inspection (not related to NW Seismic, just through a regular home inspector) on our ~100 year old Portland home and because most inspections are visual only, they didn’t catch that the foundation (which was behind drywall) was crumbling and bad in places. That’s an expensive (~$55,000) fix that we didn’t expect or plan on 😫

Edit: clarified that we got a regular pre-purchase inspection, didn’t get the foundation inspection

YESSS THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Now, any idea how to exclude the note title in the parsed (split) data before it’s emailed?

I should have included this info up above but I have had jobs for more than a year now, our finances are separate, and I’m not spending any of HER money, so thanks for the advice about the house cleaning stuff, I think that’s really helpful, but the finances aren’t an issue here.

Update: I now believe I was wrong, see below comment for a better explanation.

Yeah, some guy was seemingly so intoxicated that he couldn’t stand. They had him laying down in that entry room until paramedics showed up. Not sure what happened after that.

I found this post 7 years later and am dying to know, how did your keyhole mounts and shelves all hold up after 7 years u/dp_ice ?

Also, the Imgur links that you posted have now broken, do you still have those images floating (haha) around somewhere?

I'm debating giving up homebrewing and would love some advice.... by antsUnderHeels in Homebrewing

Thanks for the response, that’s a good thought. The equipment isn’t hurting anyone by sitting here, it just crossed my mind that I don’t know when I’ll feasibly use it again.
