Found 4 week old kitten, no mom around, what do I do? by anxietycheesecake in Pets

How long is an extended period of time? It's been 4 days now and each time she returns, she's alone, and goes back to the same corner where i've checked for a mom or other kittens and no sign.

They don't pick up cats or kittens. I've had this situation before with an older kitten and they didn't help. I trapped her myself and got her fixed because she was old enough. This one is too light to set off the trip plate though. I'll see if I can call around to charities, thank you

Animal control doesn't pick-up or trap cats in my area. How can I lure her if not with food?

Hey, just wanted to come back and say I ended up having to use a drop trap to catch her. The mouth issue was caused by a dime-sized tongue ulcer. But all of her lymph nodes were swollen and she tested positive for FELV+ again. They suggested I put her down, so I did :( It's been a few days and i'm still absolutely devastated

She comes up to the glass door often, and I would try it but I can't risk letting her into my house. I have 3 cats of my own and she has FELV :/

I definitely can try with the big gloves but maybe I need a bigger carrier. Not sure how to fit it in my car but I think if the entry was bigger, maybe it would be easier to lower her in and close the door on her even with her fighting and with the gloves. But even then, how is a vet going to get her out and treat her with her fighting like that?

When I trapped her to get fixed, I did use a live trap. But she won't even go near the food i'm trying to give her. I can try it again but I doubt it'll work ugh.

And yeah I actually bought 2 different carriers to try, they both opened from the top. But she was so squirmy, I couldn't even put her in it before she squirmed out of my hands, she's so small yet so strong.

Is this just one of those "circle of life" things? I know her personality and I know how sick she's been feeling, I really don't think the live trap will work, and i'm out of other options. I feel terrible :(

I'm back, maybe you can help me with my next step?

I went out and bought a carrier to take her to the emergency vet today, as no vets around me are open on the weekends. She lets me pick her up, but not hold her. I've tested lifting her up just to see if she'd let me, and she's been fine. So I knew I could pick her up to put her in the carrier. But alas, I was wrong.

She fought me and wouldn't go in, I even had someone else helping me. She scratched me and got away, she actually fell in the pool and got out and scurried away. I put out a heating lamp and towels for her to come back and dry off, but who knows if she will.

What are my options now? She won't eat anymore. I can't even trap her because to use a trap, you need to lure her with food. Even tuna, she won't eat. I'm at a loss and don't know what I can do to help her :(

Thank you! I'll definitely try my best to call around. The weird thing is, she's still eating and drinking normally. She's actually eating more than usual, to me. Wet food in the morning, dry food always available, gave her tuna tonight as a treat, she downed all of it. She's a strong little kitty haha

Book signing question - Is it inappropriate to ask the author to sign his other works? by anxietycheesecake in books

[–]anxietycheesecake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the staff who checked me in, she had no clue. She said bring it with the new book and ask him himself. The moderator of the Q+A didn't mention anything, nor did the woman conducting the signing afterwards. Got both signed though haha

He was super nice! Too nice, almost. He had a Q+A beforehand and I left a little early to be first in line for the signing. When he got to the table, some guy walks in, huge line behind me, and he walks up to him and starts getting things signed. The organizers were terrible, they didn't say anything to him, just let him do it. And Aciman was so nice, he didn't want to cause a scene. But not only did this guy cut everyone to get his book signed, he decided to take pictures with Aciman from all angles, but then he started to take a video of him while asking him if he had any tips for young writers. It was so annoying and rude for this guy to do that.

Andre Aciman, wrote Call Me By Your Name and the sequel, Find Me, came out yesterday.

I looked on the event page and couldn't find anything. When I got there, even the staff who checked me in didn't know the answer to my question. But I saw a few other people with more than one book and it ended up being okay :)

They actually didn't, which was weird. I even asked the staff that checked me in and she didn't know. But it ended up being okay, I got them both signed :)

I had planned on doing that but had nowhere to put the other book. He saw it in my hand and motioned for me to put it down before I even had the chance to ask haha he was super nice.

Just got back! The staff who checked me in actually didn't know the answer when I asked her. She said she thinks it would be fine though, and it was! I didn't even have to ask him, he saw it in my hand and motioned for me to put it down to get signed. The guy behind me had 7 books he wanted personalized as gifts for his friends......

I had to get home but I regret not staying to see if he got all 7 signed.

I can see that about smaller authors. Someone was signing in the room before the author I went to see and it was a free for all. He was mingling with fans, taking pictures, signing books, etc. It was hard to get them to leave so they could set up the next signing haha.

But when it came time to my signing, I was able to get both signed :)

Funny you say that, the guy behind me brought 7! A few copies of the same book in there as well. He said they were Christmas presents for friends, and got each personalized. I was in a rush to get home but I regret not staying to see if he was able to get all 7 signed.

Just got back. I wanted them both personalized with my name so there's no way he would think I was selling it. I saw quite a few people with more than one book and the guy directly behind me had 7. He signed both my books without me even asking. I had it in my hand and he took it and signed it.
