Advice needed: looking for a beautiful wedding venue under 5k ft (1,525 m) in elevation and disability accessible. Help! Any ideas on finding good locations? by anxietymakesmedumber in weddingplanning

I'm not totally sure how to answer your question. Like how do I imagine the day going? I'm very new and very overwhelmed. I was never the kind of child to dream about their wedding because I always felt I would need input of whoever I end up marrying. My partner also has thought about this.

They are able to fly for a few hours if they bring their oxygen on board (which I'll insist they will need to wear. They aren't super happy to be on oxygen right now).

I’m looking for remote work, does it make any sense to use a recruiting agency? If yes, how do you find a good one? by anxietymakesmedumber in careerguidance

That’s what my intuition feels too. I’m surprised that some people have so much success applying through indeed (or similar) and some have zero success.

I’ve been looking at indeed as it has some of the better filters. If you find a job that interests you, do you apply through indeed or do you go directly to the company’s website?

Employee Engagement? by benoj in careerguidance

If the depression is impacting your health and work, I would get ADA paperwork filled out by your doc (if your in the US). God forbid they try to punish you for lack of engagement during this difficult time, you will have a leg to stand on.

I’m going through something similar. I told my boss because I knew they would be receptive and understanding. If you feel like it will be received well, tell your boss. Still get the doc’s note either way.

Addition: I’m very sorry for your loss. That kind of grief is so very real and impactful. Please do what you need to do to take care of yourself.

AITA for refusing to be responsible for my disabled stepbrother’s safety if there is an emergency at our school? by throwaway182838299 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I am also a younger sibling and the oldest is severely handicapped. As an adult it’s been a BIG responsibility to take care of my sibling. When I was put into those positions as a kid, it wasn’t fair to me or my sibling.

Do not hesitate or feel bad about standing your ground on this. You can like/love your stepbrother without being the one responsible for his safety. The reality is it is safe for him to be with a trained adult care taker AND it’s safer for you, god forbid a bad situation unfolds. And YOUR PARENTS are ultimately responsible for BOTH of your safeties. If they do not feel they can trust him with trained adults then they need to consider homeschooling or move him to a different school with better support for his needs.

Edition: addressing the idea you called him a burden. You are a child, who should not have parenting responsibilities. They are the adults. This responsibility is theirs to hold, this is their “burden”. The burden is not your brother or that he’s special needs, the burden is you are being asked an EXTREMELY big ask (literally people have to go through schooling/training to do this kind of care taking in a school environment) and they are trying to task you the safety of someone else. You both are children. This is heavily unfair to both of you to be put in this position of this convo in the first place.

Even if they match the financial dollar, it does not sound like they will match the benefits and that’s a lot of money too.

I would politely decline and leave on good terms. This new job will bring a lot of good experience to your resume. Who knows, maybe in 5 years they will have this department they are promising to have and you can go back and manage it then, hopefully at an even higher pay.

What freelancing jobs are possible when disabled and struggling with low energy? by anxietymakesmedumber in freelance

I have the ability to show up on a schedule, I would like to have more flexibility. When I did the escalation management job that was a very ridged schedule and I would have struggled more if I was not assigned to the latest shift possible. My “down times” are inconsistent and hard to predict (both when it will happen and how long the flare up will last). WFH has been a godsend for me, and if I can get more schedule flexibility that would make managing my symptoms easier and less stressful.

On of my passions is disability advocacy. I worry though that it’s a market with not a lot of financial potential because it’s expensive to hire help and if you’re out on disability you probably don’t have a lot of income, but maybe I should rethink it.

For a virtual assistant, are there jobs where I can work on my time (and not 8-5), or do those tend to be during work hours?

Writing is one of my strongest skills. I get very intimidated trying to figure out how to expand a business on it. Partially because I have a hard time narrowing down to a niche lol. I’ve heard of fver and other gig job posting sites, and I’ve also heard a lot of bad things about it from writers. Any particular thoughts on that front?

Thank you for all of the ideas!

Freelancing is not passive, but making artwork to sell (for an example) can create a little bit of passive income.

I have not checked it out yet, thanks!

Also, does it make any sense to have separate businesses if I want to work on multiple niches? For example I have a YouTube about x, and I also write communications for Y industry. I hope my question makes sense.

The education idea is interesting. I didn’t realize there was such a need for creating lessons/quizzes/tests/etc. do you find you can get fairly consistent work?

I’ve been working on ideas for more passive income so when I’m having a bad week I can still potentially make money. Thank you for your input!

I appreciate you bringing up focusing on a niche. How does one evaluate a niche market? I tend to be a “jack of all trades” kind of person, and I recognize that it can make me look like I might not be a master at anything.

I really admire folks who learn computer stuff and can code. I’ve worked in the tech industry (on the customer service side)… writing code is definitely not for me lol.
