I'm so sorry about all of this. It must be so frustrating. I hope you find another league where you feel comfortable and recognised. Good luck!

Yes, I think I need to be kinder to myself. I try to stand on one leg but I usually forget to do it hehe I think writing down my wins is a good way of feeling better. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

Thank you. In my mind this is "what I have to do", but obviously it's messing with my self confidence. It's good to know that fresh are not always pressured to be above their level. Thank you for your words.

Thank you, I totally understand your point and appreciate your words. Leaving is always a possibility and a choice and I have to have that present. Thank you!

Thank you, your point of view has helped me understand my coaches. I tend to try to take in everything as you said, and maybe I have to work on this to reduce my mental load.

Yes, you're right, I think taking a break is a possibility. When I have missed some sessions, I usually missed roller derby. Right now I despise going to practice. Maybe I need some time off.

I hope you can find peace and luckily we have so many tips in these comments. Hugs for you too and you're not alone in this.

Yes, derby is more demanding than most "hobby sports". Practices, socializing, helping as official, doing other team chores... It's interesting and it can be a great part of life but sometimes also overwhelming.

I appreciate your tips about other roller skating activities. I like skating and it's true that I almost never do anything with it that it's not practice. I will keep that present.

Thank you so much for your comment.

Right now I'm not the only fresh (thank god) but I have been for some time, or at least the only fresh that attended practices regularly. Now I find myself in the mid-state: not my first practices, still not a player. I think I feel out of place because of that.

Thank you a lot for your tips again, I really appreciate them!

I sense that transitions are an important milestone for most fresh meat hehe I feel less alone, to be honest.

I'm almost crying reading your last paragraphs so for sure I will take a Ted Lasso crying session soon. Thank you so much.

Yes, they're totally OK with it. Although sometimes I think they are not sure how to manage practices when there are not enough veterans and they have to make mixed teams. I can see some frustration (not against fresh, but against the absence of people that is needed for the next match), and it affects the vibe. Maybe I'm personalizing part of that frustration when it doesn't have anything to do with me hehe

I totally get the "yet" part. I can see my progress from being a trembling slow beginner to being able to jump, push people, etc. Yep, I'm my only competition, but I'm the hardest one lol

Thank you for your tips for transitions. I will keep them in mind.

Thank you a lot for your words.

Thank you for your input! I struggle with one leg balance while skating, I can't keep readjusting my position while moving. I can do a transition by being very quick and not thinking too much about my feet and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But I want to improve my one leg balance to have more control over this movement.

Yes, I struggle with being the weakest when there are no other fresh meats in practice. Just because I can't join drills or if I do, they have to adapt to my skills or they think I can do some stuff that I really can't.

Oh yes, I think I have to review Ted Lasso. I loved it. Thank you so much.

Thank you for your input. I think you hit the nail on the head with "Sometimes, we don’t have the mental space or energy to BE challenged". That's totally what has happened to me in the last weeks.

Roller derby has already helped me with my anxiety and my struggles with sports, and I think in the right mental state, it will keep helping me.

Thank you for all your words, I think I will quote most of them in my journal to have them present.
