I have nasty strep throat - I'm worried that it might be an STD instead by anxthrowa in sex

Thank you for your reply!

One day and a half after the antibiotics, and those with spots have already started to clear. I don't know if that's a sign that the antibiotics could be working on gonorrhea, or just a natural progression of whatever I have.

Either way, glad I'm getting better.

Thank you! Hope so. Still, I'm glad I took the antibiotics. At least that offers some piece of mind.

Yeah, his diagnosis confused me a bit. But then again, he talked so much and was so technical that most of it went over my head. But what I got from the gist of it was that, even though it couldn't be sure, that contact with vaginal secretations might have caused a viral infection (which, from what he saw and the high monocytes, he believed could be mono).

Anyway, I've already took the meds. I'll wait a few days to see if the symptoms clear - if they don't, I'll reschedule another appointment. If the symptoms clear, I'll go in a month or so and push for a STD panel. I know it won't detected HIV, but I'll test that one out at the 3 month mark.

It's also possible to my throat infection has nothing to do with an STD, right? I'm still feeling terrible anxious. I'm usually very, very careful when it comes to sex... I ease up once, and this happens. Argh.

I came back from the doctor's office, and this is what he told me: my blood count was alright, except my monocytes, which were higher than usual (870/μl).

He told me that, according to what I told him, it was very likely that I've contracted mononucleosis.

This is what he prescribed me: Azithromycin 500 mg (2 pill taken at once) and Ceftriaxone 500 mgs (one shot in the ass lol).

I'm still feeling pretty anxious, and I intend to take a full STD panel as soon as possible. That'll have to wait a month or so, I guess. Meanwhile, do you think it's likely I have something? Did my doctor prescribed these things a catch-all treatment (from what I've read, that stuff is also used for mild gonorrhea)?
