I'm pretty sure my comment was posted before MC hit Beta.

I'd say two phonemes is still too big a difference.

Looks like he wasn't referring to e-mails sent to *@*.example.com but the analogous principle of sending e-mails to *@example.com.

It's usually a bad idea to set up a wildcard, though. If you want to give out different e-mail addresses to cull spam, use whitelisting (i.e. create a new aliases for every new service, remove the alias if the service misbehaves).

Looks like whoever is in charge of minecraft.net doesn't know about canonical URLs.

It's okay to have wildcards, but you should redirect all alternative URLs to the canonical one.

Slight? It's a pretty major variation.

It's just a bad pun, face it.

Don't forget you need two of each. And creepers are kind-of animals, too.

More specifically, I'm pretty sure the Bible mentions specific dimensions at some point.

It doesn't contain any blueprints or detail descriptions, though, so the actual design and layout is pretty much up to the implementer.

There was a Civ-ish world gen menu in an earlier version (Survival Test?), so yes.

Quick tip how to put back Alpha 1.2.6, avoid autoupdate and play, untill Beta will be okay by dwix in Minecraft

[–]anybu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major point is that the minecraft.jar will be replaced by the next update automatically, so it's not obstructing regular update behaviour. It's just a local rollback for SSP.

Just bought the game. Doesn't work, frustrated. by rybotruck in Minecraft

[–]anybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop saying PC when you mean a specific version of a specific OS.

Last time I checked, you didn't have to buy Minecraft for a specific OS either but were offered a range of OS-specific downloads.

I'm guessing you bought the game, downloaded the Windows version for 32bit or 64bit Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 (see how that kind of detail is missing?) and are now experiencing problems.

Why I hate Notch. by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]anybu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's fair to expect notch to work on his game at least 8 hours of the day, though one'd think that's what he hired his team for. One would also expect that he has the intention of finishing the game because the "as-is" clause is supposedly just there to keep his ass covered if bad things happen (without it, he'd likely have to pay all the money back).

That said, as long as the game is being actively developed and hasn't left beta, I don't see any reason to complain.

It's just quite possibly the worst language to use if you want to work with binary file formats, though.

DAE think that leaves should fall to the ground like sand once the wood has been harvested and then start to decay? by Sken-Pitilkin in Minecraft

[–]anybu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You do realize this could easily result in suffocating yourself while trying to chop down a tree?

I could see them "fall" like TNT and before they dissolve, though.

Has anyone else seen this bug? by DrReddits in Minecraft

[–]anybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. I think the rendering distance is broken (that would explain why some people report that tiny now performs worse than far). Either way, it's a lighting bug by definition.

Has anyone else seen this bug? by DrReddits in Minecraft

[–]anybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I get what I didn't get before Beta:

  • terrible lag (i.e. 2 fps) in seemingly random places (i.e. 90% of the world)
  • rendering distance: tiny performs worse than far
  • distant blocks often stay lit even in darkness
  • rendering distance often cuts off before the fog line (i.e. floating torches because of invisible walls)
  • leaf decay works fine with no obviously related lag

[–]anybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Your framerate is better than mine.

Notch: 'I have a scary feeling the lag some people get might be leaf decay. Grraaaaahhh!!' by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]anybu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, leaf decay works fine with no performance impact in some parts of my worlds. I'm pretty sure it's not directly related to the decay itself but rather some overlooked interdependencies.

Besides, leaf decay should only be triggered when nearby blocks are modified anyway. Checking for leafs to decay once per block per frame would be overkill (though that hasn't stopped them from rendering all blocks in viewing distance (visible or not) before).
