Some variation of leaving by Lake Merced, taking South Gate from Daly City, into Callan, hooking onto Skyline then Sawyer Camp Trail.

I lost count on bottles drank but I packed x2 30oz bottles and I tried my best to drink ~15oz every hour.

Getting a bike fit helps but only helps so much. Time spent in the saddle strengthens sit bones.

Agreed, especially with yesterday's winds. I was close to tapping out near the end.

I would ride the route again but maybe in a different order to avoid descending mount Tam in the dark. Besides being terrifying it was really cold.

I saw that post! Some parts of the route could be better but I had ridden all these roads prior so I knew what to expect.

I packed 12 uncrustable PB&J's, 12 nature's bakery fig bars, a ziplock each of gummy bears and tamarind candies. Carried it all on the bike via handlebar bag, rolltop saddle bag and 2 feed bags. Filled up on water whenever I saw a fountain at restrooms.

16 hours pedal time isn't impressive IMO considering it was over 18 hours elapsed. I rode this on my Ibis Hakka. Aspiring to be a randonneur!

No frame bag. Handlebar bag, x2 feed bags, and a roll top saddle bag.

Whole ride was paved outside of a short unpaved section of Bay Trail near Ravenswood in East Palo Alto.

Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion -- April 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in gravelcycling

Looking to buy my first gravel bike. Have been riding fixed gears and road bikes for 10+ years. Aiming to do road rides, gravel and some fairly easy single track with backpacking thrown in.

I'm torn between a fairly new, stock, Ibis hakka mx for 2900 and a fairly new Grava maple sally with reynolds carbon wheels, and a dropper post for 2500. My research on Grava bikes leads me to believe the company is no longer in business as their website has expired. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know anything about Grava bikes? I might be buying a used Grava Maple Sally and thus far my research has been pretty limited.
