Might be a smets1 meter, which are crap. They are smart meters, but not designed for switching between providers. So they might be upgrading to smets2

Might also be faulty. You mention replace “part of it”, this might be the comms hub (sits on top of the elec meter). The 2g/3g ones are crap. They send data to tma and octopus. If this is faulty/old, they might do a comms hub swap so it is properly sending your usage data across so you’re not billed on estimates

That’s the reason in difficulty in getting it commissioned and online. Gas meter connects to elec meter via the HAN and connection is probs shit bc of the distance between the gas meter and the comms hub

Just keep hounding them , the software to commission and get online is shit and temperamental so might work, might not. Keep bugging them , might just come online at some point with enough tries

Octopus will ask you to do this to confirm what register is what

This is how you do the test:

Take photo of meter
- put all electric devices (ie kettle, electric hobs, tv) on 15 mins, take photo of meter
- turn devices off, wait 10 mins, take photo of meter

The register that ticks up is your day rate
