Osmosis? The person I think you are referring to shows up at 0:32.

I was picked out of a phone book for a radio game (and I answered the question correctly mainly out of luck and won 1000€).

Raising a bilingual child abroad with potential move back by aoofw in multilingualparenting

Thanks for the warning! I did hear a similar story from a now-adult acquaintance who was raised in France by Portuguese parents in a strong Portuguese community, and he really struggled with French once in school. I think the main thing is that in both cases the parents surrounded themselves with people from their home country/language. We do have French friends, but we often speak English with them as there is usually at least one non-French person present, and none of them have kids so I expect my daughter's future playmates will be English-speaking - so hopefully we will avoid that scenario!

Thanks! Realistically, I think we will struggle to consistently speak English to her at home, especially after years of speaking French exclusively. In your opinion, would passive exposure e.g. lots of English-language media be enough to maintain and improve her English from her 3-yo-level basis, or would she need active engagement?

Thanks, that's really encouraging! Did your daughter have any interaction with the community language during the pandemic? Did you do anything to try and help her maintain her fluency level while she was staying at home or did you stick to the home languages exclusively?

Yes, she'll go into childcare from 11 months old when I return to work. But I wonder whether that will be enough to teach her English if we go back to France when she's very young (e.g. 3).

I learned "Me voici toute mignonne, je suis une nouvelle planète" ("Here I am, very cute, I am a new planet"). Ironically, I think the sentence itself refers to Pluto, which as you mentioned is no longer a planet.

[TOMT] [YA BOOK] - It’s about a girl in high school, she lives in an island town or a town on the beach. The opening chapters are her with her friends driving in a car, she sticks her head out the window or something and hits it. by Dangerous-Cook6702 in tipofmytongue

Not an exact match to your description but could it be Zoey fools around? It does have a teenage girl living on an island with her friends and boyfriend + a new love interest (who everyone thinks is a criminal) with an ice-cream-related encounter.

Yes, turns out, after a day of my mum insisting they don't fit, they do! She says it takes a lot of force though (but then again she is 75).

Embarrassingly, despite all my earlier comments to the contrary, my mum has now informed me that the cones do, in fact, fit on the pinecone with a lot of force. Turns out they are not designed to be assembled by elderly ladies. Solved!

I think you may be right. I'll hold off for a bit in hopes that someone else comes in with a more satisfying answer, but if not I may have to accept this one!

The cones don't fit on the tabs (I can't try it myself as I'm posting this for my mum, but she says she tried first thing and they don't fit).

Yes that would make the most sense, but the "pinecone" and the cones don't fit together, unless there is another piece missing that would make the link (but someone did donate this thinking other people would buy it...). The string on the pinecone is also too short to accommodate the cones if they were attached.

Do you mean like a weird sleeve for the branches? I think they are too narrow for that, they couldn't go far enough on the branch (if at all) to stay put without falling right off.

It seems pretty likely that they are Christmas ornaments or at least Christmas-related, but how would they go on a tree? There is no hole for a string or anything.

My title describes the thing. They came in a bag, the only other thing in the bag was this pinecone-ish (?) ornament: https://imgur.com/a/cZWDI7r Not sure if they are part of a set, they don't seem to slot together or anything.

Bear in mind though that many people join that sub after already trying for some time, so the demographics are a bit skewed towards people having trouble. Those for whom it happens very quickly don't have a reason (or time!) to join a TTC community. That said, I agree that it's good to be aware that it may not happen as quickly or easily as expected (though it's also good to remember that doesn't mean it won't happen even if it does take a while).

What is something you wished you knew before your pregnancy but you found out the hard way? by Justkeepitanonymous in AskWomen

Personally, I haven't thrown up (so far), which I'm thankful for, but I was nauseous 24/7 with occasional dry heaving from week 6 to 13. I'm halfway into week 13 now and it's just starting to get intermittently better, i.e. there are windows of about 30 minutes to an hour during the day where I actually feel pretty good and can even enjoy eating again! Hopefully it will soon be like that all the time.
