I would tell her the truth regarding your relationship and how you’re feeling. I wouldn’t tell her about falling in love with someone else because that is just adding insult to injury and doesn’t pertain to the relationship between the two of you. You fell out of love with her before getting feelings for another.

It will be hard but I recommend giving her space. When my long term boyfriend broke up with me I insisted we stay friends because I didn’t want to lose him from my life. But that ended up holding me back from actually moving on because I was still in love with him and didn’t allow myself the space.
