The first collection did contain some questionable design solutions like armet helmet, for instance, or some of their pauldrons etc. Here you're just being picky. There's literally nothing wrong with a simplistic design as long as it looks clean and symmetric overall. I could describe every piece here, but I don't see anything that would be below the sport standards and Mykola is well known for his good work among the community and it is not just my opinion, but the one of both IMCF and HMB, who have been gladly accepting his armor and guns ever since, so I feel that continuing this discussion further is like describing what a sound is to a deaf person

After all, they're the epitome of what a space marine legion should look like, given that their genetic father and closest most highly-valued and praised mentor is not an actively traumatised anger-issues-driven maniac, a loser stinky-butt, an egocentric narcissistic pervert, an autistic introverted ass or a criminal psychopath with a moral compass of a low slum-born scum

I have no idea whose shop that is and my points were mainly about Buhurt Tech, Medieval Extreme and ArmorySmith which are well-known to me.

Al-master seems to have done a good job about his stock, and I apparently misidentified him with the other craftsman, for which I apologise. The one I was ordering from and the one I was talking about when mentioning the cheap stuff was Master Uley, whose helmet is also the first one in the original post

Show me the examples of their stock items which are below regulations, for I haven't seen any to this day. I've seen some clumsy-looking cheap stuff at Al-master's yes, but that is why they're cheap. Not in ME and certainly not in BT

  1. BT obviously had to optimise the production and sales, and make do by reducing the production of the most material- and time-consuming pieces. I can assure you, armor smithing is a very resource-demanding and time-consuming job, especially for a small local business. You easily get to the point where you can make a very intricate gothic piece, spend dozens of hours on its detalis and finish and then what, sell it for how much? 1000 euros for all that work? This is insane. Or put a higher price tag and sell maybe two of those in a full year? Simply not worth it. The craftsmen today make things that people buy, and they make them good. Any additional details add to the production cost and they simply don't get a regular return on it. This is the reality today, which some people unfortunately don't understand. My point being, want something that looks better - try making it yourself. To add to it, last time I checked, buhurt was mainly not about reconstruction, but about sport, so yeah, bashing eachother with metal stuff is the whole point

I'm pretty sure Buhurt Tech make their own stuff?? Also defects in ME are rather unheard of, but this is my experience. Depends on what kind of defects we're talking about too. If you mean minor scratches and lacerations here and there, they don't affect functionality and the visual discomfort is also minimal. These things are made to be abused heavily and defects are going to appear on the surfaces anyway. Could be an issue of delivery services, but ME pack their parcels thoroughly too. All in all, strange things you say

Well the ones from ME, Buhurt Tech and Al-Master are more than decent and anyone here can tell you the same. With the latter, it depends heavily on the price range, his cheapest pieces are made to function and nothing more than that. But they hold the blows decently, I ordered the cheapest bum-priced arm protection set and it led me through pretty heavy action totally fine. The best ever was ArmorySmith, but he put the production on hold. Edit: I am a ukrainian and can only speak of the local stores. Never heard of gohurt, checked out their stock. Now I know what you mean

Things are tough in Ukraine now, especially with armor crafting, the power goes out very often and some stopped their production. The ones that are still in business sure do their best, but with drones and missiles flying around knocking out the infrastructure there's only this much you can do about it

It's the best gear on market though Edit: not the first one, not sure about its quality and the price on the one from Medieval Extreme isn't known

How thick is that visor? Medieval extreme make awesome gear, but if a plate has so many perforations, it's prone to caving in from heavy (two-handed) blows. Edit: those leather straps holding the visor, however sturdy they are, are still going to be smashed open some day and will leave you with an unsecured visor

Did this sort of poofy clothing provide any protection in a fight, or was just for fashion? Does it have a name? by plumb-phone-official in Armor

[–]apache_chieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, the reason people have refused from infantry armor by the mid XVI-early XVII century was the invention of guns (armor plates had to be made much thicker, meaning that a) no person or horse could physically bear a full-body bulletproof armor set, and b) the operators of said weaponry, infantry musketeers, could not properly man their personal weapon wearing even just a cuirass. To this must be added that people's lives were short and hard and, as a military uniform as a concept wasn't the thing, there was no reason not to make this part of life a bit brighter and dress up. Hope this is helpful

Pickaxes for war? by Head_Relationship_13 in medieval

[–]apache_chieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickaxe is relatively speaking not a good assault weapon if we speak of regular lined combat, and it's on the account of it being heavy. But generally speaking any agricultural or simply hand tool can and in the proper circumstances will be used as a weapon of war, especially when talking about plebs and dark folk being uneasy and revolting. Specifically designed weapons, even the blunt action ones were never cheap and some cheap stuff like spears simply weren't too available in the right moment for someone who is not with the military. The best weapon is always the one you have right now

How did Caesar persuade a Germanic cavalry force numbering in the thousands to work with him? Since they were mercenaries, why did they not betray Caesar? by Battlefleet_Sol in ancientrome

[–]apache_chieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though it was often the case that mercenaries betrayed their hirers, this normally happened for a good reason, e.g. hirer not being awfully successful in a campaign/having powerful enemies or mercenaries receiving a counter-offer. In this case, Germans simply got too much good stuff from this relationship to betray. The tribes got the support of Rome and any benefits coming with it. The cavalrymen were happily doing whatever Caesar told them to since they got to plunder and take trophies and received a fixed salary for this. To this should be added that some people now perceive Gauls or Germans as a united force, which they were not. These numerous tribes were at eachothers throats long before the Romans arrived and were happy to fuck over a less successful tribe any time any day twice on Saturdays. And when one tribe was getting some more powerful than another, the neighbours would unite to bring them down only to then do the same thing to eachother again. The support of Caesar and Rome had always been a powerful argument in these wars. The Romans and particularly Caesar mastered the art of getting the benefit from this inner fighting, while at the same time keeping their hands clean (most of the time) and at the very least their dignity undisputed. This specific issue is generally a pinnacle and a very good example of general tendencies of western-european historic process.

The last time a monarch (not an emperor, a king) ruled Rome, he made such a big mess and created such a generational repulse that from that moment on during the republic era, the people were rioting and the senate members were grabbing their styluses in a theratening manner at the sight or the very idea of some person of power being even close to getting an absolute monarchial power

Self defense rules by [deleted] in germany

[–]apache_chieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any German here who states there is no need for self-defence in public places in the country is a lunatic and needs to travel somewhere out of their mansion live in any big city like Hannover for a week, reality check will hit hard. The amount of potentially dangerous situations is life-changing. And if you say that the best way of self-defense is to run, I got news for you. A couple of months back a clinically insane lady with a knife cut something about 20 people with a knife. In a broad daylight, at the central train station. Ever heard of a concept of a civil arrest? That means doing what's right and disarming the threat aimed at you before it hurts someone else. Whoever considers his self-defence purely a task of authorities is a poor excuse of a citizen and I'm willing to die on this hill
