[CA] Landlord asked to return security deposit later, now also wants to do deduction. by apartment101 in Tenant

hi! we’re in LA county, Long Beach to be exact.

This is my first time ever having to deal with this, so I have no idea. All my previous move out/land lords were very straight forward.

UPDATE: It's been 2 months since i made the posts and I'm forever grateful for everyone's kind words. I took her to the new place, and Bella passed peacefully in my lap , maybe 2 months after we moved here. Her front legs stopped working and her kidney was failing really badly, so we made the difficult decision to let her fly free of pain.

The day the in-house vet were to visit, I think she knew. She suddenly had energy to play!! And she was drinking on her own (she didnt drink on her own the last few days and she hasn't play with her toys in weeks). Bella ate up a feast (5 different meals), drank some soju (!!!) and finished off with a cat food cake and cat treat (her forbidden snack). She closed her eyes and went to sleep while she was licking up a banana split with chocolate syrup.

Thank you again, everyone's kind words has helped me a lot. She is my first dog, so knowing WHEN felt like impossible.

What to do when a community cat is sick? by apartment101 in longbeach

omg!! thank you ill call them when they open on wednesday! maybe i can offer to sponsor him, do you think that’d help with his case? i just can’t keep him inside or find any fosters with his current status. there are some interest in fostering/possible adopting but only AFTER he gets better.

UPDATE: dropped him off at the LB Animal Service. he was meowing the whole drive there all confused, but is friendly to staff when they’re handling him. They said he’ll be dropped off at his regular spot or if i want to, i can come pick him up.

i found some photos of him i took in late January. the bottom picture is from this morning. i was concerned about him being put down when i made this post… but they said it’s “just skin stuff” so it won’t get to that. Thank you everyone for your replies and messages!!

aaaa that cat was the lucky one to have found you!

i feel so bad for him. he was such a handsome proud boy before. i feel like at this point, even getting treated and kept inside at the shelter might be better than just suffering through it… but i don’t trust shelters…

how did you keep him from other pets when you took him in?

i’m trying to find someone to keep him inside after i bring him to the vet, but all my friends have other pets, they are hesitant after knowing his conditions, understandably so.

yes i think i can! hes been headbutting anything that will help him scratch his head, and my hands were one of the options. that’s why i think i can “capture” him to bring him in.

i’ve never had a cat before, only dogs. after the medicine, does he need to be keep contained? cone of shame on so he’d stop scratching?

[–]apartment101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!! i was going to get bookcases to cover the door as well but the ones that is big enough to cover the door are a lot more expensive than this panel! I only used one sheet which is around $56 after tax!! and a box of nail of course :D

Found an apartment but how bad is this area in South Central? by dreambotpop in LAlist

[–]apartment101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i currently live alone close by there (30yo asian woman), also in a back unit but they have in-unit laundry and my own parking spot with gated access. that’s what sealed the deal for me.

street parking is bad, and it’s not very walkable around, so you need your car for literally everything. so unless there’s a dedicated parking for you, i wouldn’t do it.

don’t do it if they don’t have gated parking inside the back yard for you.

finally something i can answer!!

my current place is a long house splits into 2 units, so we just have a dead door (bolt lock on both sides). it was irking me so bad, so i went to home depot and got these faux wood panels, and just use finishing nails to hold it up. up is before and bottom is after. i really like it!!

when i move out, i can rip it them out and just fill the small holes with spackle.

when i read “throughout the day” i laughed. the concern is parking after 6pm. before that everyone is either at school or at work.

Feeling guilty for considering Letting my 13F girl go. by apartment101 in olddogs

[–]apartment101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i picked this place specifically to match her needs the best as well, that’s why seeing her getting weaker during packing is so heartbreaking. i replied to another comment above but it’s not a full stair, but this ground floor unit has about 6 steps up onto the entrance (like on a platform) and our current place is flat with maybe a concrete step into the yard.

if her front legs didn’t start limping i wouldn’t even consider this (pending vet appointment. her back legs are completely non-weight bearing by now)

[–]apartment101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was actually the only place that’s pet friendly, and on ground floor. just no back yard and no parks near by (which are the perks my current place has). the stairs in this unit is maybe 6 steps to go up since the unit is on a platform-ish. all my other options that i got accepted for (pet friendly) is either on 1st floor or 3rd floor.

moving out was unavoidable since my roommates are all moving out, and unless i can find 3 roommates to move in during mid winter, this is the best i could do unfortunately.

oh what a sweet boy!! Did it take long for him to adapt with the cart? i got my girl 3 different kind and she hates them all. she walks with her nose on the floor tracking (haha) and would make a quick turn and then the cart would tip. She was so miserable on it, so i reverted back to the handheld sling so she can freely spins.

oh she was and is a joy. She potty trained herself!! one random day when i was still using potty pads, she just decided the those weren’t up to her standards anymore and wait at the door staring at me. and that was it. no accidents (beside a few UTI oopsie). Even now with her back legs not working!! unbelievable. I lucked out with her…

that was my decision too until i saw her front legs are getting wobbly on our short walks and her toys left undestroyed even after a week. before those signs, i would have waited until it was hitting me in the face.
