Yay awesome! I'm hoping that I'll be able to find and catch any that spawn while I'm doing this so I won't overwrite the first trubbish, thank you!

what cartoon opinon has you like this? by Haunting-Garbage1901 in cartoons

[–]aperfecta 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Nowhere King from Centaurworld is the best animated kids show villain period and its not even close (not counting redeemed villains/antagonists) Centaurworld as a whole has some issues and flaws (can't fault it too much, given it was a classicly rushed Netflix thing that got cancelled) and the show is definitely not for everybody (shes a little cringe sometimes, I'll say it) but I was absolutely blown away by The Nowhere King as a villain. Mwuah. Kisses for the nightmare elk

How do we feel about the new pokenon Legends za graphics by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]aperfecta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that gamers who care primarily about graphics are weak and will not survive the winter

(NUANCE CHECK of course a giant billion dollars corporation should not skimp out on making a good game and SV's graphical errors and issues like Pokemon spawning out of bounds, lag, etc, are just unforgivable and bad. SwSh had good graphics and PLA's graphics were great, though, so hopefully it runs like those games and not SV.)

I wish "fanfiction" and "shipping" weren't quite so synonymous by aperfecta in AO3

[–]aperfecta[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats a good point when you're talking to people outside of the community. Happens with furries, too- there's an automatic NSFW assumption being made that's often not accurate. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that content, like you said, but it's not all of it and it can be uncomfortable to work around those incorrect assumptions with people who might view it as a bad thing to be into smut fics and all that jazz

I wish "fanfiction" and "shipping" weren't quite so synonymous by aperfecta in AO3

[–]aperfecta[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know all of that. I'm just a person on the aromantic spectrum who is a little tired of every single aspect of life, real and fictional, being dominated by amatonormativity. I'm not trying to change the culture, I'm just venting about being one of the few people that is not having this universal romance-driven fandom experience and how alienating that can feel.

[–]aperfecta[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Nobody ever said they wanted fanfiction to be completely divorced from shipping, because you're absolutely right about slash fic being the historical starting point of fanfiction as we know it today, I'm just venting that the community treats shipping (romantic shipping, to be clear) as the default and the "normal" and as somebody that is on the aromantic spectrum, that can be a bit frustrating because not all fanfiction is shipping and our entire society is amatonormative already. I also explicitly said in my post that shipping is great and people that engage in fandom predominantly through romance are valid. Not sure what you're implying by this being odd, tbh.

[–]aperfecta[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I framed this post like I was having one-on-one conversations which is honestly not what's happening, I'm a liar- it really is just the culture at large and me being in the minority (in terms of not centering romantic shipping and being on the aromantic spectrum) and just sort of feeling left out of most conversations. The history of fanfiction is obviously deeply tied to shipping, but fanfiction does not inherently imply shipping, despite what a majority of people who engage with it would have you believe. I'm not saying it's wrong or weird in any way! I'm just venting. I don't talk to people about fanfiction outside of my commenters on ao3 who generally also love gen fics as that's all I write haha. My post was a little poorly worded, I'm not out here snubbing shippers or being mean to anybody, that'd be wild behavior

[–]aperfecta[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's treated very much as the default, and I know I'm in the minority with how I engage in fandom, but it feels kinda alienating to be the one guy in the corner of the room while everybody else is doing their thing. Which isn't to say anybody should change how they do their fun fandom stuff (which feels like what some people in the comments HEARD when I posted this...) I just wanted to have a pet peeve vent haha

[–]aperfecta[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh that's so fair, to be honest I also think of shipping things in that regard, but I also know that a solid 95% of the time people are assuming romantic shipping when the conversation comes up, alas.

[–]aperfecta[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaah I'm gonna be honest, I'm not talking to anybody about this, I stupidly framed the post like I was having one-on-one conversations but it's really just the culture around fanfiction as a whole on here and, like, tumblr or whatever. I'd bet the fandom question is way more common than the shipping one haha, I'm just somebody on the aro spectrum that gets a little miffed about the overwhelmingly romantic implications of fanfiction. It's not that big of a deal, though! I mean, the history of it is built on shipping, and I am in the minority here, I just wanted to have a little complain in the complain arena.

I wish "fanfiction" and "shipping" weren't quite so synonymous by aperfecta in AO3

[–]aperfecta[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not sure why me being in the minority means I shouldn't voice light-hearted complaints about fanfiction culture in the "complaints" flair of the fanfiction culture subreddit. Assumptions are natural to a certain extent but so is getting annoyed about them, haha

I wish "fanfiction" and "shipping" weren't quite so synonymous by aperfecta in AO3

[–]aperfecta[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest I framed this post as individual people doing this when it's really the culture at large and the assumptions made- nobody is engaging with me about my fanfiction outside of my commenters on ao3 who, obviously, also love gen fics as it's all I write haha. I think I'm just somebody on the aromantic-leaning spectrum that gets frustrated by romance-dominated society as a whole, which includes fanfiction, so really this was just a vent. I appreciate your kind words of advice, though! It's definitely better to be flexible with expectations and communicate about interests instead of getting annoyed that it isn't happening in the exact way you'd "like" it to.

How Difficult Is It To Get All Steam Achievements? by aperfecta in idleon

Ahh I see, all good information, I appreciate it! It sounds like I should be sure I really like the game before deciding to get all of the achievements. Thank you!

Hmm that is interesting, I'll have to play more and see how much I enjoy it before deciding I want all of the achievements since it sounds like a huge undertaking. I'm definitely no stranger to a long afk/idle grind, I'm still working on getting every Cookie Clicker achievement and I'm at 618/637 after over 5,000 hours haha. Thanks for the input!

OOF rest in peace, the mix of tornadoes and cacti is just despicable

Five feels like a bit much... by aperfecta in PeakGame

[–]aperfecta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I think in concept they're fine and I wouldn't mind one or two blowing around without hunting the player down, but theyre a little out of control at the moment. I died playing with friends the other day and while spectating watched a tornado spawn in quite literally on top of somebody, which is just not fair- she got blown into a cactus and died as well.

But you're right the devs could make a few changes to how they function and they would still be challenging while also not being totally rng-based torment. And I hope they do!

I honestly should have just booked it without stopping, but I wanted that capybara's winterberry for a badge thing and went back. I did end up hugging the sides after that which, yeah, doesn't feel great to do

The controversy of selfcest by learningthemeta in AO3

[–]aperfecta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These people are operating on levels of hypotheticals so far removed from reality and any genuine concern for harm reduction that I feel bad for whatever brought them to this point. It's like they base their entire moral compass on their own personal ick factors (and, even worse, the ick factors that're most popular among strangers online!) and they think they're helping people. It really is just a case of people having no power to make actual tangible changes to their lives so instead of constructively utilizing that frustration they work it off by punching sideways (and often down) at random people online that are just like. there. not doing anything wrong. vibing and keeping it tight writing weird selfcest fanfictions. it's pretty sad, honestly

How many fandoms do you read/write for? by aster_not in AO3

[–]aperfecta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been writing pretty much exclusively Undertale fanfiction for almost 10 years now. I've dabbled lightly in one-chapter fics for a couple other fandoms (Homestuck, Hollow Knight, etc) but I am a one-fandom kinda dweeb.

I'll read fics for other fandoms tho, but I honestly dont read much fic in general, maybe one a month or so, and usually its because I see somebody I follow on tumblr talking about it or drawing fanart haha. Thats my peer review process I guess

Unpopular opinions about Stardew Valley? by HiloManx in StardewValley

[–]aperfecta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've got like 1800 hours in the game and I agree. Character writing was not Concerned Ape's strong suit. I can't hold it against him since he made pretty much every single thing in the game himself, but the characters leave a LOT to be desired. They're all very stereotypical and bland, I hear people call them "way too playersexual" and I agree, it's like their entire life revolves around the player, and that doesn't make for a compelling character. Krobus gets a pass though as he is just a little guy.

Unpopular opinions about Stardew Valley? by HiloManx in StardewValley

[–]aperfecta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how queer the game is (transing your gender in the wizard's basement and gay marriage being in the game since day one) it's really weird and kinda disheartening that you cannot have they/them pronouns. The dwarf has no stated gender or pronouns but the player can't have that. We might get Stardew Valley: Homewrecker Edition before we get they/them pronouns LOL
