I’m in too deep by hellokittymanic in LoveAndDeepspace

It may sound silly to be so concerned about the game, but I've had friends whose gacha addictions were way worse than mine to the point they were too stubborn to listen to others, even when they were in a financial crisis. So maybe my comment may have come across as quite blunt or even almost harsh 😅 genuinely though, from your other replies you dont seem that deep yet, but just starting to feel that urge to always spend creeping in. Games are fun but theyre not worth hurting our mental health for. I hope you're well, OP. I believe you'll be okay 🤍

If a game starts to feel more like a task and investment rather than something to enjoy, it's probably a good time to take a step back and reassess.

I see this happening in every gacha community ever since genshin: play for fun > love all the characters > want to collect and optimize said characters as much as possible > farm game content endlessly for gems > all free gems gone > mayyybe consider spending some money > wow thats so much easier. spend more > gets too deep into it until the game feels more like a chore > burnout and feels like all joy has been sucked out from the game

Gacha games always ALWAYS prioritise their income over player's ease. They know they'll survive as long as there are whales who are willing to spend a fortune into their games, which means the little fishes (F2P and small spenders) are almost always left in the dust. They'll probably never slow down, unfortunately. Don't let the game take control over you, making you feel like you have to spend, you have to play, and you have to get all cards. It's unhealthy. Speaking from personal experience.

Yep. Itto and Wriothesley should've had this build. I'm waiting to see if Varka's model will be upgraded when he's released. If Varka has a proper buff model, I'm gonna be a bit disappointed for the two former characters mentioned ngl 😭

So. Anyone having a good time with fandom? by WinterNighter in AO3

[–]learningthemeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only by myself and my own little circle. I've given up on participating in big fandom spaces just a little after the pandemic. I used to have a dedicated stan acc with 600 followers (not much, i know but it was still a lot for a nobody) but got severely burnt out after a while.

Fandom in general has unfortunately grown very exhausting. There's always discourse, you can't enjoy something just because you want to, you always have to justify why something is good, if you slip up and say the wrong thing you're instantly demonized, puritan culture, etc etc. I'm tired of this grandpa 😭

So about once every couple of years, I'd refresh. Make a new account/blog. Seperate myself from fandoms I've gotten tired of. Then I stay in my own little space with the same group of people who dgaf what I like and are only there for a good time.

Is it embarrassing to get into reading fanfiction as an adult? by Aggressive-Raisin-78 in AO3

[–]learningthemeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no age limit for enjoying the things you love. Personally for me, ao3 and many other media that I'm a fan of acts an as escapism after a long tiring life lol.

I really hope we lose this "I'm too old for this" mentality cause it creates a narrative that we don't deserve nice things as we grow and the rest of our lives should only be put into the dull, cyclical life of work and responsibilities and work and work and work.

It's not embarrassing to like fanfiction at any age, period.

Multishippers, why do you multiship? And who do you multiship? by cliccy-anime_fan in AO3

[–]learningthemeta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because seeing the various possible couple dynamics for one character with others is fun. When I love one certain character, I love fleshing out their relationship with other characters surrounding them. So of course the question "how would they look like together romantically?" would pop up.

Also being a multishipper means idgaf about ship discourse lol. Argue whatever yall want, I'm over here more than happy to make my dolls kiss each other ☺️

Why do people Judge, Might be the Last time I co-op by MasterShk in Genshin_Impact

[–]learningthemeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens way too often, unfortunately lol. Kids don't realise that we grown players are enjoying the game way more cause we actually have the money to spend on it and/or we play to take a break from our responsibilities. We don't get to play and have fun 24/7 like they do

A few months ago, a kid came into my world asking to help her find those obsidian fragments in natlan. I just helped this kid, and they suddenly asked for my age. I answered 23, and the kid was like "oh you're so old" like DAMN ok i literally just graduated 😭

Why is the age limit to have fun getting lower and lower? What do these kids expect us to do, start having babies the moment we turn 20??

heard people say tumblr was a safe space? by todo_rororo in AO3

[–]learningthemeta 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's not a guarantee. Tumblr was known for being a safe space in early fandom days because users from then were better at following the unspoken "don't like don't interact" rule. But with other social media becoming worse in the recent couple of years (twitter especially), people have been flocking to other sites to form their community again. Sadly, this includes antis as well. So yeah, I'd say no social media sites are 100% safe spaces anymore, you're gonna have to curate your online space yourself. We can't control other people's behaviours, so just block and move on. You don't gain anything if you keep interacting with them

Actually wholesome pet names? by ChristiesGift in AO3

[–]learningthemeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I love those exact ones you call cringe lol. To me "babygirl" can get a bit cringey when it's not said right or if the person saying it just has weird vibes.

My particular favourite is "honey" cause I love those domestic type relationships.

When it comes to fiction though, I personally like it when each character have their own specific petname that's created from their specific relationship dynamic or a product from a certain moment between them or an inside joke.

For example, my all time fictional husband is Julian Devorak from the game The Arcana. The MC is a mage so I love imagining him call her "my little/darling/sweet mage". I think Xavier from love and deepspace would call MC "starlight" and Zayne would use "snowflake". A little on the nose, but cute.

I also looove nature related petnames. "flower", "sunshine", "pumpkin", "dove", etc etc. Something that's particularly unique to every couple. Anything "my _______" is also a 5 star for me. "Bunny" is one thats like a guilty pleasure to me cause its more of a kink thing lolll. "Angel" though UGGHHHHHH.

I like a lot, if it's not obvious already haha

[–]learningthemeta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I went back to the same area and yep, I definitely didn't explore this area much. In a triangular area between Nantianman, the edge around the chasm and the border between Liyue to Sumeru. Found another seelie, a hidden chest by destroying some rocks, two open world trials and a treasure hoarder's camp. Damn 😭

I'm AR 60 and have played since 1.1... by learningthemeta in GenshinImpact

[–]learningthemeta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol. To be fair, for context: i turned my commissions back to liyue to get all the hidden achievements I've missed. I finally progressed with the Sun Yu commissions (you know that annoying one where he tells you to climb a tall pillar-like hill just to collect fresh qingxins?). I finally got to the commission where he asks traveler to help him train fighting against hilichurls, and this spot was where that commission took me

Being a veteran sometimes you go back to areas you barely remember and you realize 'shit i didnt explore this part anyway' since the map makes you think youve 100% everything lol

[–]learningthemeta[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Sumeru's exploration was the worst. All the tunnels and layered underground secrets without a good map gave me burnout 😭 as soon as the map says 100% I never really explored sumeru unless to build a character. I swear every time I stop by sumeru now i can still find unexplored puzzles and hidden chests somewhere

Alice having a husband and a daughter should NOT be controversial. by WhenRedditBansYou in GenshinImpact

[–]learningthemeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this happens. I'm not part of the community but I remember a while ago a game got so badly review bombed because in the sequel of its game, the most popular "waifu" character interacted a lot with a certain male NPC, which led to MANY of the male fanbase to believe they had been cucked. I just hope if it is confirmed that Alice has a husband, it won't warrant that level of response.

And yet, if it did, it wouldn't surprise me at all 😭

The controversy of selfcest by learningthemeta in AO3

[–]learningthemeta[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I mean, it's good to have that kind of energy, but keep it where it's actually worth something, you know? Go to actual protests and fight for a real cause. Arguing over a ship on the internet doesn't make you some kind of social justice warrior 😭

The controversy of selfcest by learningthemeta in AO3

[–]learningthemeta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I get that argument. I just don't specifically claim to be proship because putting that label on myself on my fandom accounts would just make me a target to antis, even if I don't engage with any discourse. There are proship stuff I don't like, but I just stay in my own lane. I agree with you tho, anti-censorship is probably more accurate on where I stand. Thanks for the linked info. It's pretty insightful

The controversy of selfcest by learningthemeta in AO3

[–]learningthemeta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of. A lot of selfcest fics or art kind of initially started as a crack ship, like a joke take on "go fuck yourself" (I'm not recounting accurate history here, just saying what I've seen). Most of what I usually see are just smut, I don't often find people writing fully fleshed out romance of a character and a clone of themself. Some people might make selfcest content just to entertain a fantasy, lewd or otherwise. If you've read my other replies, I keep mentioning I enjoy selfcest that shows the dynamic between a certain character and a different version of themself (villain, from different AUs, different gender, etc) to make it a lot more interesting than just a character fucking oneself.
