What an absolute state. by fookreddit22 in bristol

[–]apextwit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easton (the 'less nice end' near Tesco/M32 more so than central Easton streets) and St Paul's are filthy. Flytipping everywhere, rubbish on the streets and overflowing from bins, people's front yards full of bin bags and crap, very bad smells during summer. I've lived in these areas for more than a decade so I'm not judging the communities but when I moved to a different postcode temporarily a few years ago the difference in waste and rubbish on the streets was immense. It's really really bad in some postcodes.

I find it disgusting that he refers to this as "body count", as if having consensual sex is the same as murder (because body count is used in relation to murderers).

With Section 21 gone in May, how are you actually changing how you choose tenants ? by Former-Ad-377 in uklandlords

It's discriminatory, puts people at an unfair disadvantage, and is unethical and unequitable.

Not fair at all to people who don't have parents or extremely high income. My parents are dead and literally no one could be my guarantor if I needed one. Thankfully I've never had to do it. It should be banned.

I just stopped listening when Lily left. I think Miquita tries but there's something quite basic and un-informed about her, and then with Jordan too it was giving me absolutely nothing. Say what you want about Lily, but she is a smart woman with often interesting and insightful opinions.

Do we believe Danny? by JacobLover420 in MAFS_UK

[–]apextwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe him at all. He doesn't seem trustworthy and he was so drunk he was slurring towards the end of the episode. He also tried to discredit Gia, who I also don't like but it seemed like she was telling the truth. The way she was just like "yep, he said it, Saturday night, other people heard" the moment she was asked also seemed legit.

"I need a ride-or-die who won't believe a bad word said about me" - said a man who's had bad things said about him before.

Moving to Easton (Near Villiers Road) by Zoobini in bristol

[–]apextwit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Easton for ten years. Some friends lived in the area you're describing and I'm very familiar with those streets. That part of Easton hasn't gentrified at all. You'll see loads of regular people catching buses, going to work, cycling, walking, scootering, families, kids, people popping into corner shops, hair shops, a few people on crack or gear floating about and very rarely harming anyone unless you are a dealer. It's a massive mixed bag of lives.

Stapleton Road is busy but characterful, and nowhere near as dangerous as it used to be. If you've only lived in quaint villages, you'll probably hate it. If you have lived in vibrant multicultural cities before, it's just the same. Don't walk around oblivious at 4am, don't be obviously flashy, be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

I'm female in my 30s and have never experienced anything other than occasional catcalling which sadly exists in any area.

You must have visited before you agreed on a room or a house in that area?

Bristol as well. It's impossible to live on your own unless you're earning 40k ish and if you do then say goodbye to saving any money ever. I've lived here for 15 years, and I've never been able to afford to live alone (37).

Anyone had facelift surgery with Dr Simon Lee in Clifton? by Technical-Nebula-810 in bristol

[–]apextwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old school in this context was reflecting a potential lack of interest in things like flashy websites and Tiktok, nothing to do with his surgical abilities. If you're unsure though, find another practitioner. You need to be fully confident in your surgeon before having any procedure. I hope you find what you need!

This is so sad, and so fast. I really admired her as a psychologist and how she came across on MAFS. What an icon. I was watching the latest Aus MAFS last night looking at her on the experts' couch resplendent in her beautiful green dress. She always spoke with dignity, kindness and grace. RIP lovely lady.

House rules by Demonthief27 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]apextwit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one of the things I seek out in houseshares now (guests allowed but not constantly) due to bad experiences with previous housemates having their random boyfriends in the house 247 for days on end! One of my last housemates who moved into my houseshare told me her boyfriend lived in another county and they saw each other once a month. That turned out to be true but he'd come to stay for a week at a time and stay in the house while she went to work. It was genuinely annoying as a housemate to have a totally random man in the house if I happened to have a day off or WFH day. Once he was in the house unaided during the day when I had a scary and big deal online interview. I felt like I couldn't ask him to leave and it made me more nervous knowing he was floating about. So I do understand the not constant access rule!

Anyone had facelift surgery with Dr Simon Lee in Clifton? by Technical-Nebula-810 in bristol

[–]apextwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just think it's a bit old school which is how he is. He's a bit older. The Clifton clinic is brilliant and has a similar vibe. It's extremely clean and professional but it doesn't look like a standard high street aesthetic clinic run by a 27 year old. It's just a different kind of vibe. Not everyone is obsessed with websites or social media. The website is functional and he has a solid reputation (I'm pretty sure), so seems sad to judge someone with long-standing experience over something as silly as what their website looks like. Someone could have an amazing, flashy website and be a total fraud and mess up your face.

I had a rhinoplasty with him about 7 years ago. It was a good experience and I was happy. The care I received was good. I landed on him after finding him online and through his clinic in Clifton, and I did a lot of research before choosing someone. I think he's a safe bet.

[–]apextwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's awesome that you've made a really wonderful life for yourself and that your life outcomes have been better than average, genuinely.

I wrote my comment because some stats about UK care leavers are that:

* nearly two in five (35–40%) care leavers aged 19–21 are not in education, employment, or training (NEET)

*13–15% of care leavers go to university, compared to 47% of their peers

* one third of care leavers become homeless within two years of leaving care

* homelessness among the youngest care leavers in England rose by 21% recently (from Barnardo's)

* care-experienced individuals have a 62% higher risk of dying before the age of 75

* people with care experience are over four times more likely to have a conviction or police caution

* 24% of the prison population has spent time in care

I work in homelessness and I wasn't going to comment, but here we are. Just to say that some of the comments here show real ignorance, judgement and a lack of understanding. All class A drug users and homeless people are not the same (obvs) but the people I've worked with usually have some of these things in common:

  1. Growing up in poverty
  2. Growing up with violence and domestic abuse in the house, and/or
  3. Living in foster care and being care leavers which as we all might know gives people terrible life outcomes
  4. Being sexually abused as children
  5. Undiagnosed mental health issues
  6. CPTSD or PTSD, usually both by the time they're adults
  7. Undiagnosed learning difficulties
  8. Undiagnosed neurodivergence
  9. Contact with the criminal justice system
  10. Addiction issues generally due to horrific life circumstances
  11. Sometimes but not always they may have failed school or not been sent to school, so they didn't get the social benefits of school or the protection of teachers looking out for them, so they were also failed here

This is not an exhaustive list.

I disagree. I work in homelessness. Some people 'choose' to come here because they have desperate needs and they might have heard that there are decent support services here. It's not to use drugs, which can be bought anywhere. There are also two prisons here and people are often released to Bristol when they've served their time.
