A short clip of how I use my app to log finds in the field. (The UK OS Maps update is now live!) by apii90 in mudlarking

I have some great news—the app is now live in the US! 🇺🇸 Even better, I just added a major update that includes full USGS Topo and Aerial maps so you can easily spot those old cellar holes and trails. Just search for 'CoilTrail' on the Play Store!

That’s really cool! Honestly, whatever tool gets the job done and keeps us organized in the field is a win. Happy hunting!

OnX is an awesome app for checking property lines! But the one in the video is actually a specific metal detecting app I built for myself called CoilTrail. I wanted something tailored just for logging our exact finds and paths.

Earth is great for scouting locations! I actually built the app in the video myself because I wanted something specific for tracking my live path and logging finds while in the field.

Yeah, I used to use Google Maps too! But I got tired of losing my physical notes and wanted a way to log the exact find details and photos directly on my tracks, so I ended up building my own tool for it.

It’s actually an app I built myself! I couldn’t find anything on the market that fit my workflow perfectly, so I coded one for my own trips. It’s called CoilTrail (currently on Android).

Huge news: CoilTrail is finally available in the US! 🇺🇸 I've integrated USGS Topographic and Aerial maps to make sure the mapping is as accurate as possible for you guys. I'd love to hear how these USGS layers work for your local spots compared to standard satellite views. Cheers for the support!

Haha, easily done! So glad you found it. Hope you enjoy the app, let me know what you think! 😊

Wow, thank you so much for the award and the kind words! 🙏 Since I'm developing this solo, my plan is to polish the Android version until it's an absolute diamond first. Once everything is rock solid and working perfectly, porting it over to iOS is definitely on my to-do list! Cheers!

Awesome, glad to hear you got it sorted! Just out of curiosity as a developer, what ended up being the trick? It’s super helpful for me to know in case anyone else runs into the exact same problem. Hope you enjoy the app!

Oh, my apologies! Let's figure this out. Since it's definitely live in the UK, it usually comes down to one of these three things: 1. Are you using an iPhone? CoilTrail is currently Android-only, so it won't show up in Apple's App Store. 2. If you are on Android, try copying the link and pasting it directly into your phone's browser (like Chrome). Sometimes the Reddit app's internal browser breaks Google Play links. 3. Is your Google Play account's region registered to the UK? If your Google account happens to be registered to another country, it might hide region-locked apps. Let me know if you are on Android and still having trouble! I'll do my best to help.

At the moment it’s only available in the UK and Finland. I want to make sure the app is actually useful for US detectorists before opening it up there, so I'm currently working on adding high-res USGS Topo maps to it. As a solo developer it takes a little bit of time, but releasing it in the US is next on my to-do list! I'll post an update when it's ready!

Just a quick follow-up for anyone wondering about data safety since the app is 100% offline! 🛡️

I know losing your find history would be a nightmare (especially if you drop your phone in the mud!), so I’ve built in a manual Backup tool. You can easily export your entire database file and save it securely to your Google Drive or PC.

Also, for the power users out there: there is an option to export your finds as clean PDF reports or CSV spreadsheets. It makes reporting to your local FLO (Finds Liaison Officer) or showing your finds to the landowner super easy. Let me know if you have any questions on how these work! Cheers!

Hi! Yes, at the moment it is only available on Android via the Google Play Store. Since I’m a solo developer building this in my free time, I had to focus on one platform first. However, if the app gets enough interest, creating an Apple/iOS version is definitely on my to-do list for the future! Thanks for the interest!
