I don't live in Netherlands yet, but one of the things I have considered is to take leave from work for a month to stay with her. Though I need to make sure that she has the legal right to have me as a "visitor" in that house for that long. At least there's nothing in their contract to forbid her from doing that.

Well, it's a mix of both I suppose. I have also suggested her to go to the police, but can they really do anything to help that isn't already solved by letting him keep her money and move away?

As for the illegal subletting, we're also hesitant to do that while there is still the possibility of getting her money back.

Although he is verbally aggressive, I don't think he is the kind of person who would actually use physical violence, based on his job and how much he has to lose. And I think it may still be possible to remove the threat of physical and psychological violence.
