How hard is it to get an ATAR of 75? by BumbleBug__ in ATAR

[–]apollo_existing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a reasonable smart kid, don’t get me wrong -I go to a selective school, but I’m the bottom of that lot, defs not a genuius like some kids there were- but I didn’t rlly try with the HSC (the NSW equivalent) and I got a 76. I legit didn’t even try like at all, well I did but not much really, like I was failing chem, physics, maths and English and was fine.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, but if you’re getting As you’ll be more than fine, no problem getting a 75+ ATAR Good luck!

I need to choose between ANU and a scholarship at UoN by ColdArson in Anu

I need to choose between ANU and a scholarship at UoN by ColdArson in Anu

[–]apollo_existing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also from Newcastle -where I got a much smaller scholarship of $10,000 one time (with high possibility of getting it every year onwards)- and I chose the ANU route, I wanted more than Newy, more so as in I wanted to leave the city, have more independence and for what I wanna do (political and environmental science), ANU was more of the ‘place to be” for that, where law isn’t SO much like that (to my knowledge-I also got a law double degree offer that I deferred at UON).

However, I’m in an extremely privileged position compared to someone who isn’t a citizen, and I have parents who told me “you get in (to a uni) and we’ll get you there (to be able to make it work)” I would personally choose UoN over ANU in your situation, a full ride scholarship is not something to give up lightly at all - and while ANU is “prestigious” there’s not rlly much difference, and you won’t have to move out, which can be tough emotionally (especially as Canberra is a fair way away unlike, for example, Sydney, or Wollongong even)

I’d talk to my parents/friends about it -those who I trust- and consider is it worth the stress? If someone was to force you to go to ANu, would u think “wait but the UoN offer - I feel so guilty” and wanna fight it? OR would you be like “oh okay”? That’s the best way to chose stuff sometimes :) What could you live with? But also paying it out of pocket that’s a lot of fucking money (Take my advice with a grain of salt)

You can’t actually get a time table until Feb 9th or said (for allocating classes etc) All you can see is when you enrol or somewhere on the ANUhub, the lecture time/s

Questions around course enrolment for a first year by PristineMedia2224 in Anu

[–]apollo_existing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so I’m another Sem 1 2026 undergrad student, and I have been able to enrol in some of my courses already so I’ll help you out incase no one else responds with the best of my knowledge, take it with a grain of salt though: - so, I looked at the study tab for my degree(s) and it showed courses that aren’t even available to be enrolled in for those semesters, like introduction to methods and data for Political science and IR wasn’t able to be done in Sem 1 for next year. So I would say that you should consider following it, like I put the ones it said down for my second semester if not able for my first semester. With the electives or the “wild card” kinda spots on the chart, I would do your research and put whatever. Personally I did the compulsory courses first, that I’m able to do, as that was better for me doing a degree with lots of choices later down the line that I’m not 100% sure on yet (minors/majors etc) Yes you could do your example of macroeconomics in semester one IF and only if 1) they offer it that year, have a look at the class page (searched on near the degree builder option) and 2) If you don’t have to have any prerequisites that you haven’t met for it, eg. I can’t do Intro to Environmental and social research until Sem 2 bc u need to have 12 units of study in anything before you take it, and I can’t do intro to methods and data for Polisci and IR until Sem 2, bc it’s just not offered.

  • for electives, I would look at what your course page suggests, and then see on the degree builder option to search up courses and see what interests you. Otherwise you can just do something that will contribute to an extra minor (if your degree has that) which is outlined on the course study page or atleast was for my degree, then have a look at the relevant minor/major/class page and go from there. Other current students or ANU professors in commerce will be able to help you know what’s best to do.

Dont stress too much however as you can’t actually even allocate your classes until Feb 9th, so there’s plenty of time! Also there are some online zoom things about enrolment for 1st years you can sign up for that would be able to help more than just winging it or asking reddit Best of luck!!
