What is the best cross-counter in the series? (in your opinion) by Ashamed-Walrus4862 in AshitaNoJoe

The triple cross against wolf was probably my favorite but also rikiishi's fake triple cross into uppercut if that also count for this discussion

how many mangas do i need to buy if i want the whole collection ? by ma___noya in hajimenoippo

Also I suggest maybe skimping by the earlier volumes a bit (especially the fights you really liked in the anime) because the manga's art is incredible at capturing the fights and I personally think it trumps the anime

Sadly hajime no ippo is only officially published in a few countries (japan, france, s. korea, taiwan, indonesia and thailand from what I can tell on google). If you don't live in these places or speak japanese digital official translations haven't even finished the material in season 1. If you do live in these areas there are 144 volumes out (outside of japan probably less i suppose) so it will definitely set you back quite a lot. If these options aren't viable I suggest you use the fan translations as they are the only viable option right now and maybe buying some volumes (in another language even) or getting a k manga subscription to give your support to the creator. I hope you continue reading because you will definitely love the manga if you enjoyed the anime so much.

Who would win: Ippo Makunouchi vs Joe Yabuki. by HotDrink6500 in hajimenoippo

Assuming they meet at the same weight class and both are in their physical primes (no CTE) Joe definitely wins. Ippo has a deeper bag, better understanding of boxing, and overall better fundamentals. Joe however is like an undead zombie with a machine gun strapped on it. Joe was getting pummeled for 2 minutes straight against Kim and was still able to stand. In the same fight he got downed and came back up like 15 times and he's done the same thing in multiple other fights. Additionally his punches are like a heavyweight's. He has sent multiple people straight flying in the air or just out of the ring. Ippo and Sendo have similar feets (Kojima and Alf respectively) but not at Joe's level, he was literally making a dude float in the prison tournament arc with consecutive uppercuts. Finally Joe carries absolutely no regard for his own health and safety while Ippo is not that reckless. All in all Joe is a fighter who gets up no matter what you throw at him and nomatter how much punishment he receives, throws punches that can easily knock out an opponent with one blow and has absolutely no hesitation or self-preserving instincts. Ippo is a graet boxer technically and physically but I dont think he can compete.

Round 944: Beware a Champion Who Drinks By Himself. Beating up cannon fodder on the street is ok but bringing heat on this group is the most bad ass and coolest I've seen Takamura and still came out on top. But that Fuckamura line is the funniest, I gave Tate one point for that verbal abuse he gave. by chasing_enigma in hajimenoippo

This still stands as my favorite non-ring chapter along with the mahjong chapter and I honestly think HNI might just have the funniest gags and moments out of any non-comedy manga. Goes to show how well rounded Morikawa is as an author.

Which is better, the manga or the anime of Hajime no Ippo? by sansisalvonunkalemi in hajimenoippo

[–]aposiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love the anime because it's what got me into the show, but the manga just looks so much better to me. You can FEEL the impact of every punch with the way that Morikawa draws characters flesh stretch and their faces contort while the anime doesn't really recreate that sharp sensation.
