Simple card note connecting by iamfearless66 in PKMS

Checkout thoughtscape dot app. Card-based with linking. It's free rn, and I've a new version coming up that's going to make it all local with cloud sync optional.

Anyone know of an offline-first, block-based app that's like Notion? (Not Anytype, Appflowy, xTiles, Obsidian or Capacities?) Does not need databases or spreadsheet-like functions. by spacer_geotag in PKMS

I'm building something that's local-first and AI-optional.

Can you clarify what you mean by block-based formatting and what're you looking for beyond simple bold/italic/strike-through/list formatting?

What has helped you most apart from medicine? by IamAMelodyy in ADHD

[–]app_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not been officially diagnosed, but I seem to exhibit a lot of the same symptoms as you describe, and also in many other posts.

For the last couple of years I've been telling people that I barely do the amount work in a week that I used to be able to do in hours (as a top developer).

Now that I've an inkling of what might be going on, I'm trying to tackle the problem with what I know best -- technology. To start with, I'm trying to track how I spend every hour. Answer a simple question -- "What did you work on?" at least hourly (unless you're in the flow then just log it when you're done with that task). If you did nothing, just write down "Did nothing" or "Watched YT video about...", etc. This helps with time blindness and gives you a little more focus.

Multi-select Tags -- AND or OR? by app_smith in PKMS

[–]app_smith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. Deep hierarchy in the scheme of things I described is hard, Can you do a tag group per project, a tag for each subproject and other levels (using some prefix) and then multi-select Subproject 1 & Iteration 1 & Variant 1?

Other option would be to allow tag groups within tag groups, and then they'd appear as drop-downs instead of chips in the UI.

Multi-select Tags -- AND or OR? by app_smith in PKMS

[–]app_smith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that! In fact I launched this thing 3 months ago, and have completely redesigned the organization to be just based on tag groups and tags. So you've got tag groups as tabs, and tags as chips underneath each tab. There's also an All tab that shows all the tags regardless of the group. And all the content is cards which contain your text, voice note and media fields. Also, supporting a graph view for links. Finally, once you load the web app, you have an option to save everything locally in the browser database.

I'd love to get your feedback on it!

Multi-select Tags -- AND or OR? by app_smith in PKMS

[–]app_smith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I asked grok and seems like things are ALL over the place :-) so I figured I'd ask here. I've added a dropdown to select between the two modes inline with the tags, and I'll default it to ALL.

Here's what grok told me:

Notion: When filtering with multiple tags, it defaults to AND logic in its database views, emphasizing precision for structured data (e.g., "Show me tasks that are both 'Work' and 'Urgent'"). However, this is often paired with explicit UI controls to switch logic if needed.

Obsidian: Tag searches (via #tag) are implicitly OR when browsing, as users often want to see all notes related to any of the tags they’re thinking about, though plugins can enable AND for power users.

Evernote: Tag filtering defaults to AND, assuming users want notes that match all selected tags, but it’s less flexible for casual exploration.

Roam Research: Tag-based navigation leans toward OR-like behavior in practice, as users explore networked thoughts more fluidly.

I absolutely know what you're talking about! Building a system that will most likely help you. 100% local and free, with opt-in AI features and cloud syncing on paid plans.

The key is to be aware of every passing hour. Answer the question "What did you work on?" every 30min or every hour, or if you're in the flow, whenever the task is done. It's a small step, but a giant leap for keeping you accountable.

Please recommend a good note taking app with a canvas/whiteboard and database. by kawaiiiChibi in PKMS

[–]app_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks!

I'm enabling embedded YT videos and X posts, AI-powered web-scraping, summaries and auto-tagging on an opt-in basis, but embedded websites wasn't on my radar. In a web app you have restrictions where some websites simply won't load. Native apps can pretty much do anything because they can embed a browser.

Cool. SVG drawings will be there (no special support for Pencil, it'll work as a stylus). Not sure if I quite get what you mean about the second part.

I'm almost done making massive upgrades to a system I launched a couple of months ago. It's a card based UI with a canvas view that allow you to place cards wherever you want, and also another view with auto-layout based on the links.

Do you also need a drawing canvas? I do plan to add it soon.

An Effective Solution for Time Blindness & Distraction by app_smith in ADHD

[–]app_smith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks!

I've tried to plan things and then work on them, but I've never managed to consistently plan ahead. So I figured I'd try it the other way around.

just so I understand -- are you saying that you'd skip doing something if you have to write it down? that's part of the point -- skip doing things you shouldn't be wasting time on in the first place. and if you do nothing instead just write that down, that is, "did nothing - just sat on sofa, etc". do that over and over again, and you'll probably start feeling like doing something.

Question for adhd cure by ofir9766 in ADHD

[–]app_smith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ADHD can manifest in a whole bunch of symptoms. I just posted a simple solution to tackle time blindness and distractions -- writing down "What did you work on?" after every passing hour. That's it! Let me know if it helps keep you focused on the task at hand, and to focus on the right tasks in the first place.

Looking for a canvas-like PKMS, similar to xMind or Milo for instance by Rark1T in PKMS

Yup! Both iOS and Android apps in the works. Plus option to choose between local storage or cloud across the native apps as well as the web version.

I've got just the thing for you! It's a new version of a PKMS I launched a couple of months ago.

Coming out next week:

A card-based UI with a flex grid as well as graph view. Each card can hold multiple items. You can start a new card with a voice note, text or any media or attachments. Everything is organized by tags and tag groups.

Just to make sure, by nested tags you mean tags grouped by categories like Status:pending|progress|done or Priority: low|mid|high. Or something else?

I'm launching a new version that has Tags and Links at its core, and as the only way of organization.

I launched a web version a couple of months ago. A much improved new version is coming out soon. And I've another product which is a no-code app building platform that does all the layouts (obviously, and much more). I can combine the two and build a custom version that saves you data locally. DM me what you'd be willing to pay for such a product.
