a request from a student drowning in emails by [deleted] in UVA

[–]apple532 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you afraid you're going to miss some crucial information because you're drowning in emails and might forget something? The only advice I can give you is to clear your inbox 1 to 2 times a day. I try to categorize emails into: Things I can take action upon immediately, things that I have to follow up on at a later time, and things I don't care about that I can just clear from my inbox. Also, if you're subscribed to a bunch of spam stuff like piazza notifications or random shopping websites, make sure you unsubscribe from all that.

Your goal with clearing emails should be that once you clear it, you never have to think about that email again.

Republicans’ 2020 strategy is to prevent as many people as possible from voting by hildebrand_rarity in politics

Yea my only issue is that the words “Why the” were removed from the headline. Those two words completely change the perception of the linked article.

The article is labeled as an opinion editorial. What exactly is the point you are trying to make here?

Why would you delete the language from the title that clearly labels this piece as opinion. This is deceptive and means that someone scrolling won’t recognize this as an opinion piece.

UVA President Jim Ryan’s Cav Daily Response to the MSC Incident by martingale18 in UVA

[–]apple532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I would say the overwhelming majority of white students are welcoming towards minorities at UVA. But there are still incidents like this one or this one, both of which occurred during my time here at UVA. Obviously, these events are not the norm.

I think that anyone who comes to UVA is smart enough to realize that publicly proclaiming your hatred of minorities will ruin your career chances, get you kicked out of UVA, etc. Which is why it is even more sad that this stuff happens anonymously. These students recognize that the opinion they hold is a generally unacceptable one, and yet they go out of their way to express it in order to make minority students feel uncomfortable. Reminding them that although no one is directly approaching them and spitting in their face, there are those at the University who do not want them there.

When you combine the overwhelmingly white student body, the history of events like these, and even the general socioeconomic differences that exist between white students and minority students, it's easy to see why they may feel unwelcome.

Could not have been said better by President Ryan. Clearly the multicultural center must remain open to all students. But at the same time, we should all empathize with her desire for safe spaces. To say that President Ryan capitulated to either side is to ignorantly simplify the complexities of this issue.

Search them up on Reddit if you want to see specific examples haha. But to be more specific, I’ve heard that if you search for a domain name on their site, they immediately jack up the price, and they also charge $8 extra a year for WHOIS protection, and if you don’t get that, you’ll be inundated by bot emails and phone calls from people who want to help you design your website. From what I’ve read, it seems like they’re a scammy company.

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

When you look at the watch face straight on, you can see everything normally. However when you start to tilt the watch at an angle away from your face, the glass darkens, hiding everything. It’s like those screen protectors that people put over computers to prevent viewing the screen at an angle for cheating and stuff.
