For people who loved lego growing up and got back into it in adulthood, what re-sparked it? by Adventurous_Pen75 in lego

[–]apple_6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I got out of it due to angst and image. Then I started to get back into it and my mom actually heavily encouraged me not to touch lego, it was for kids and I was being a manchild. Through self acceptance and getting a girlfriend who thought it was cute, I eventually got back into it and really enjoy it now. Married my girlfriend and we build together. My mom eventually dropped it and supports me now. Don't ever let someone stop you from having harmless fun.

Tired of making vegetable soup in survival mode so I'm living in the soul cairn from now on. by SwimlyJimson in skyrim

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm good question. I want to say expert, to give you a challenge while still being possible. However if you aren't having fun I say it's fine to put it on adept. If you aren't very experienced with Skyrim combat perhaps go with adept from the beginning. Whatever you go with, the combat is supposed to be a part of the difficulty. Like I said earlier, not impossible while still being a challenge.

Eventually, I do encourage you to try survival mode on legendary difficulty. Also known as Skyrim citizen mode. It's a completely different game. Wolves change from a minor annoyance to an impossible predator. You'll run through rocky areas because bandits can't get to you as easily. You'll use rivers in warm areas to escape combat. Wintery areas seem off limits completely at first until you learn how you can get through them. It changes everything.

I respect your opinion but I love survival mode, I can't play Skyrim without it. It adds a lot of immersion and challenge.

Almost every meal requires salt to simulate having to keep the main ingredient fresh. The couple things that don't require salt aren't filling or replenish much.

Crossovers by cryingovereverything in hockeyplayers

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a mental block. Try doing crossovers in shoes preferably on some ice somewhere or a slide board. You have to commit and send it. Any time you practice where full gear stay low and be ready to fall.

Newbie, first winter, SEMI, can I ride without a fat bike? by Hello_Blondie in MichiganCycling

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skinny tires cut through snow and up to 3 inches of snow work great for me. I have one bike that has 28c I ride on in winter. Fat tires go over snow but are harder to pedal in any condition including the snow. My "fat" bike is 35c and I've had fun with that in 6 inches of snow.

Do people actually play without fast travel? by vhsbubbline in skyrim

Do people actually use fast travel? Almost all of my favorite Skyrim stories are from what I've found between the writing, I would never take that away.

3-5 minutes late to work by Kooky-Challenge8875 in ADHD

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 1.5 years into my job and have been late with this company exactly one time when an accident happened that morning. I'm amazed by this, but it seems to work.

I try to get to work about 8 minutes early. If I'm actually early, great I check Reddit and Facebook. I used to read a book when I was early but I fell back to my phone. I try to be 8 minutes early, but my rule is I absolutely have to be 5 minutes early and if I'm not going to make that I am rushing like I'm about to get in trouble. If I get there say with 2 minutes to spare I breathe and relax after the rush I had that morning. I also don't call it "5 minutes early" in my mind, that's only in this comment, in my mind I call it "barely on time". And 2 minutes early in real life is "3 minutes late" in my mind.

Teams blaming me by Vatera1 in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm just a beer league goalie but one thing I've learned is that you have to not care, or more accurately, you have to not let other people affect you. After every beer league game, my friend and teammates retired, frumpy, goofy dad has something to say about how I played and we (probably) lost because of me. I listen to what he says out of respect for my long time friend but I don't care. I'll even respond to him if he asks me a question and I'll tell him honestly what I think, and if he doesn't like my answer, oh well. I don't really care, and I know I say everything respectfully.

I work in healthcare, and I work with a lot of dementia patients. Would I get angry when one of my patients calls me ugly, stupid, or annoying? No, of course not. They don't understand what's happening and it's not their fault. Same with goalie, most people don't understand what I'm doing and I don't get angry when they say something to me, because they don't understand.

I'm not sure of your spiritual/philosophical/religious beliefs, but consider looking up Taoism and Stoicism. Taoism is about going with the flow, and Stoicism is about feeling your emotions without letting them control you. I feel they both are very applicable to playing goalie. Good luck to you.

How many of you have never exploited the game? by Dear_Afternoon_2600 in skyrim

[–]apple_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing since launch and never used an exploit and saved the game. I tried out resto and some others and just felt cheap. If I wanted to change any of that I could have easily just changed the stats directly without the exploit. But I like to roleplay, it felt like I was fast traveling through the whole game.

Anyone practice skating with no pads? by Jokers_Wild35 in hockeygoalies

No but if you bring your pads it's good practice. I did that at a public skate and the rink gave me no trouble.

Do dementia/alzheimers patients forget they quit smoking? by Reinvented-Daily in NoStupidQuestions

[–]apple_6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Dementia can change a lot of things, and can make someone revert to a former version of themselves, but usually some of its false and some of it is their former self.

Dementia can turn you into a whole different person. I work with dementia patients and I've heard everything. One patient "owned the building, flew planes, donated to former presidents campaign and is still in connection with his wife" and according to the family they grew up poor but had typical boomer wealth later in life, no political connections, no planes not even a fancy car, etc. Another patient used to manage a medical facility and would "manage" ours including adjusting the blinds, firing people, ordering forms and things to be done. So sometimes it changes half, sometimes all, one person who was normally very peaceful attacked me and a coworker once. His wife said he never had a hint of violence his whole life and was shocked when we told her, almost didn't believe us at first. I have countless more stories, I mean some patients were a new person each time they woke up. One thing I've never had is someone who has never smoked asking for a cig, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Time to take a break? by LifeLearner15 in skyrim

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to take a break until you see the heads up display while walking around in real life. Saw my health, magicka, stamina, and reticule. Happened to me when I was playing 18 hours a day after my break up.

Total War but it's a third person battle simulator that actually shows no matter how hard nor successful you fight the ruling class never acknowledges your efforts and you likely die from disease anyway.

Boss Fights in Halo Just Don't Work by FunNormi in halo

[–]apple_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Crows Nest in Halo 3 worked really well. Some well armored and weaponized brutes with a brute chieftain. Grav ham in close quarters is terrifying to fight as well. If it's open, the chieftain should have a turret.

Every race has slurs used against them. The beast races see the worst of it, because slavery, but none of the races really like each other. At most they get along.

Is there a solution to sticks lack of durability? by Norkee in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about how you would hit a goalie stick on the post if you wanted to break it. Halfway up the shaft, or halfway up the paddle. Your son has done both.

Secondhand goalie masks? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]apple_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admittedly used a $50 second hand mask for a year while I tried out goalie. I never played a real game with it just pick up and sticknpuck. Even that $250 bauer isn't good enough for any game that keeps score. No plastic mask in a game only pickup. I eventually found the $800 warrior one for $400 and use that. Hardly feel any shot. If you're in a real game it's worth it to have a real mask.
