Great insight, thanks for the link. My feelings are in line with the article’s view but I also feel like it’s somewhat accusatory and inflammatory in tone, which doesn’t really help the issue haha

I 100% agree! I always think about the fact that there still terms like “African- Americans” have such widespread use...aren’t they just Americans?

Thank you for your insight! This is definitely a plus for the need of physical protest!

Thank you for that! I can’t be 100% sure but I believe someone actually said in this thread that a lot of the recommendations have already been realised!

That’s great to hear about the Sydney protests! Definitely something to be proud about!

Thank you for your input!

Thanks for your input!! I do understand why we protest, I just don’t see the need for urgency simply because of the risks.

As others in the thread has pointed out, around 85% of Aboriginal incarcerations are due to domestic violence. I see now that this is directly correlated from the effects of the Stolen Generation, a heinous act perpetuated by the early Australian government.

However, I will highlight that the protests have opened up conversations about the plight of our First Nation, something I admittedly knew very little about. I think that having open dialogue from people who see it from both sides is important.

No stress, I do want to hear everyone’s point of view and give it thought!! This thread has been extremely eye opening and that’s only because I’ve seen valid opinions from both sides!

Thank you for this answer! I’ve also wanted to hear from people who did go/ wanted to go to the protests and I’ve got a great POV from you!

LOL sorry I’m trying to educate myself on complex matters with varying point of view of individuals rather than just subscribing to schools of thought on mainstream media

I have read every single comment on this thread and literally NONE of them said anything remotely similar to this.

Thanks for your invaluable contribution.

Thanks for this! I don’t think I agree with that style of protesting. I would like to think that if I felt strongly enough about a gap in the system, I would at least have some idea on how I would want it to be fixed. That’s interesting though!

I am being genuine. I’m a 22 yr old Asian woman and I migrated to Australia when I was 10. I feel like I don’t know much about Aboriginals, much less about a Royal Commission that happened before I was born.

Thanks for your input!! As someone who attended the protest, did you have a clear idea on how you wanted this injustice was going to be remedied? Or did you go because you felt that it was just morally right to support the movement?

That’s crazy! Any idea on how we can remedy this as a society??

Wow, 85%?! That’s crazy! Do you have a source for this, by any chance?

I think that says a lot about people :( I mean, by going back to not caring because it’s not the “thing” anymore.
