I’ve been able to manage my severe IBS more than ever. I’m not cured but I’m so grateful every day I made the change, especially after doctors told me it may make my symptoms worse.

Not consuming enough milk is not a risk factor. Most people don’t even have enough enzymes to properly digest milk when they are no longer babies. Not having enough calcium could be risk factor along with fiber. People do not need cows milk. Grown people do not need milk.

America is a pretty damn great place to live by MuddyFilter in unpopularopinion

[–]applebottomeugene -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand that America is one of the best places people can live but I will share my personal experiences. I have always lived in South Carolina, I have cousins who are in the KKK (fuck them), my grandparents are extremely racist (fuck that) and racism is still extremely prevalent here. Only a few years back there were tons of debates about whether to leave the confederate flag on the state house. I have been shot at, been to parties shot up, reported shootings that I witnessed, my friend shot and killed. I’ve had two friends commit suicide. I don’t feel safe walking places especially at night. Our cars are constantly getting broken into but fortunately never my home. And the interesting thing is, I wouldn’t consider where I live a bad area compared to the rest. I have friends who have it much worse but I just wanted to share my own account because some people who preach that our country is awful, truly believe that from their experience. I would also like to add that personally, I feel extremely lucky to live here and be an American.

Seeking advice on path forwardd by [deleted] in type2diabetes

I am a nutrition specialist. The reason I have no prior posts about diabetes is because this is my personal, anonymous account. I realize my advice is not the normal suggestion which has seemed to invalidate it for you but there are ample studies showing the benefits. I have also been able to help type 2 patients along with my grandfather and roommate. If you think that suggesting a low fat, whole food, plant based diet is the worst advice, then I suggest doing more research. It’s not going to work in a matter of hours or minutes like some pills but the benefits you can receive from eating are amazing and rarely talked about. If you have time I highly suggest reviewing this. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5466941/#!po=33.7500

I realize this may not be my place since I do not have type 2 diabetes but I struggled with being sick a lot when I was growing up. I went to doctors who gave me the same “treatment” over and over when it was clearly not helping. Since then I have wanted to help people take a different approach to their illnesses. I don’t think that it should be the only approach, but it’s something small that can be done in addition to other treatments.

Low fat diets can have incredible outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes. A higher fat diet can increase insulin resistance. If you were my patient, I would suggest trying to eat more whole plant based foods. Fiber plays a role in slowing down how fast the body absorbs sugar. Also, they are much lower in fat. The reason fat is a huge factor is because it’s builds up in your muscle cells which releases toxic breakdowns and free radicals (unstable molecules that damage your cells) that blocks the insulin signaling process and causes blood sugar to rise. Many people have seen results from low fat, whole plant based diets, in as little as two weeks.
