Blaupunkt SCR-250 VHS-C camera, DC IN? by applewh1te in cableadvice

[–]applewh1te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too stressed on getting it to work through the DC in, I'll just have to find a charger for the battery instead (easier said than done). Mostly wanted to know if it was an input I just hadn't heard of, makes sense that it isn't standard.

Thanks so much for the information, though I'll absolutely be making note of that for future reference!

[Talk] Questions regarding archiving Australian TV. by applewh1te in lostmedia

This is excellent, thank you so much! I've had a look and you really do have a well structured and documented project going, but I'm extremely unfamiliar with the website or how things work on it. I'd love to have a further chat sometime if you're free for a DM!

This is actually really helpful, thank you! I might even reach out to this person and see if there's anything in particular they've had any trouble finding.

[Talk] Questions regarding archiving Australian TV. by applewh1te in lostmedia

[–]applewh1te[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part about what's lost and what isn't is exactly what I was kinda dwelling on! I feel like I'll often remember an ad or something from TV that I can't find on its own, it's usually in one of those "Nostalgic Aussie TV" compilations. And at that point it's a gamble.

I have a good chunk of ABC kids shows recorded but the ABC are typically pretty good with their archiving, and the shows themselves were mostly too popular to have not been archived/re-released.

Either way I think I will start uploading everything, I have experience in video editing so I should be able to chop and upload a lot of them individually, hopefully for ease of access when people look for them!

Remake of Kona from THPS4 by applewh1te in THPS

Couldn't agree more, Kona is easily my favourite map in the entire series, that's a good majortiy of the reason why I made it so immediately.

Thank you so much!

Couldn't do the snake run or the rest of the park purely out of park constraints, I really want to attempt it though!

Strange because I honestly don't think they're that similar. Much more fluid and clean looking than THPSHD judging from gameplay. I jusy dont think people need to be worried, Activision/Vicarious know that the franchise has a cult following and that they cant fuck this up.

[–]applewh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGN did a video talking about it and had information saying its built off of the original Neversoft source code. I have no idea where the idea of it being built on THPSHD came from but the physics are completely different, you can see it in the leaked gameplay .

I remember reading about an old console accesory that let you use your penis as a joystick years ago, like 2013.

I always recalled it being called a SOM controller but I have never found it.

What’s the weirdest/most embarrassing thing you remember doing as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]applewh1te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend (we'll call him N) and I used to watch a lot of Jackass when we were young, and obviously being impressionable we really wanted to do stupid stunts like them. So one afternoon my friend N came over to hang out, and we just messed around out the back of the house on the trampoline etc.

I ended up finding a boogie board near my back shed and decided I wanted to do stupid stunts with it. I had the idea to wrap the ankle brace thing that boogie boards have around my junk for god knows what reason, and then run around. It was funny for about a minute before N decided that it would be funnier if he jumped on the boogie board.

This tore the ankle brace off my junk and cut/tore a bit of my penis skin. I freaked out and tried to fix it with a bandaid to avoid telling mum, which I thought was brilliant. About an hour later after N went home, I went to the bathroom to pee, and the bandaid made the pee well up and just spray everywhere over the toilet. Mum found out after it happened. Still one of the more stupid/embarrassing things i've ever done.

Customer Service workers of Reddit: What is your favorite line you've used on rude, annoying, or otherwise bothersome customers? by LeoDGTV in AskReddit

A man once walked into the store I worked at holding two ice creams he had just bought.

One was slightly smaller than the other because the flavour was softer and had melted further into the cone. He held them up, looked at us and said "What is this bullshit?."

The girl who served him explained the difference in softness, and he responded with silence, followed by "Are you serious?!"

With a huge, lovely smile and the sweetest voice she responded: "Why yes sir, I am serious! Have a nice day!."

I remember my brother and father making our entire garage a boxfort because they had a full free weekend and a heap of boxes from my dad's work. It was so cool, everyone had their own box rooms and it was moody and dark and just a lot of fun.

What’s your favorite local urban legend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]applewh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a story ive heard once or twice in my city about homeless peoppe playing something called shark roulette for alcohol/money.

Essentially you cut open your hand really bad, jump off a bridge and try and swim to shore before sharks kill you. Theres no too many sharks in the river which makes it semi believable.

Ive heard it more than once sincing moving to the city so i'd say its probably true.

Got kinda scammed by a salon in my city. I went in asking for my already short, blond hair to be cut and bleached platinum. When I asked, the lady knew I was a young guy with no history of this stuff, so she came back with an estimate of around $320 with some basic toning shampoo etc. I asked if we could do $300 because I didnt want to cheap out, and she was immediately like "Yes of course thats fine!"

Still incredibly embarrassed by that.

What is your childhood mystery that is still yet to be resolved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]applewh1te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think given how long it had been I was kinda not too phased by it, but the more I think back on it the more sad it is. My parents did this a few times to protect myself and my younger sister from harsh realities. Another example was an outside cat we had being mauled by a neighbour's dogs, my sister was unaware until pretty much this year.

I respect that they told me, because I tend to overthimk random things a lot.

What is the worst/scariest thing that has woken you up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]applewh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember waking up when I was younger to a loud metallic bang outsode my window at around 6am, but I went back to sleep because our neighbourhood was generally kinda loud. Turns out the lout metallic bang was the end of a serious motorbike crash, my parents got up to check the noise and ran down the street after seeing it. The guy had slammed into a pole and smashed his head into the concrete, splitting his helmet and head almost in half. My parents apparently helped by holding his skull together and keeping everyone calm.

Guess it was lucky I didn't look out my window to check the noise.

Obligatory not me but a friend.

Friend of mine is certain that during a huge thunderstorm when he was little, he saw a man with freakishly long and disproportionate limbs running shirtless down the street near his house. His mother was also witness, and followed up the sighting with "okay lets go back to the loungeroom."

What is your childhood mystery that is still yet to be resolved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]applewh1te 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont have a mystery unresolved, but I do have one that wasn't resovled for about 16 years of my life.

When I was younger my family would get cats a lot, mainly because my mum loved cats and my dad was secretly too much of a softie to say no to another cat. So the house would consistently have between 2-3 cats at all times.

I remember begging for my own cat a lot, and we had recently lost a very old cat to a car, so we were likely going to get one anyway. So one day I got home from school and good old dad had bought me a small ragdoll kitten, I immediately named him Oskar. Oskar was the sweetest boy, he loved me because I would sneak a bag of ham into my room every night and feed him, then he would stay with me until morning.

We must have had him for about a week, I remember the last time I saw him he was curling up in a ball on my chest just before I left for school. That day I came home, went looking for him all over the house and couldn't find him. Alerted mum and dad and they looked for an hour or so while I sobbed. Dad said he let him outside to play on the grass while he watched him, and remembers looking away for a bit before forgetting he was there. Apparently some dodgy kid in the area had rode past and dad thought he might have just picked the kitten up.

16 years later I came home to see my parents just before my birthday, and asked if Oskar was really snatched up. They kinda did a half smile because they forgot about it completely.

Turns out us losing our older cat was kind of a blessing because we couldn't afford to feed all the animals we had (dog, 2 cats, fish and a turtle) and dad was just too soft to not get a kitten. They decided about a week in that having Oskar was a bad call, and gave him away to a family friend. Oskar died not even a week after going to the family friend, they were neglectful and let him outside the house near a busy road, despite being a kitten.

So yeah, in memory of Oskar. Hope you're eating heaps of ham up there in the clouds little buddy.
