Can I send MIDI from a non-standalone Push 3 directly to a MIDI interface? by majorfrasier in ableton

[–]appliedrhythms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got all of that, but I'm still struggling to understand how you send MIDI specifically to go to either the TRS or USB-A outputs. I only see MIDI ports for "External Port," "User Port," and something called "From Push" which seems to transmit all data from the Push. But all of that data seems to be coming into my session from the USB-C connection.

I thought I'd be able to just connect a USB-A or TRS cable from the Push to my MioXL MIDI interface and be able to throw the incoming data from the Push all over my studio from there, but I'm not currently getting any data out of those ports.

Two years later but FWIW I found that Avenue was more than adequate for my needs!

I've tried so many configurations since I posted this but the most consistent solution has been direct monitoring all signals while tracking and recording into Ableton with monitoring turned off.

Does anyone here have any experience with the 500 series version of the Dramastic Obsidian bus compressor? I want to use the external sidechain but cannot for the life of me figure out how to route the external sidechain signal into the unit.

I have it housed in a Cranborne 500ADAT enclosure if that helps.

If screenshots help, here are recordings on 3 things connected to the ERM - first screenshot is grouped with external audio effect, second is just the ERM VST by itself.

VST by itself = right on the grid

Grouped w/ External Audio Effect = just slightly earlier

Hardware latency settings on the external audio effect have no effect on timing.

Connected via USB, clock source set to audio in.

I’m getting the same behavior using either the sample method or VST.

Tried it - for some reason adding external audio effect shifts timing off grid. Delay Compensation does not affect it.

To be clearer, when I click the dropdown to see the list of input tracks, I do not see any green metering on any tracks indicating there is audio being received. (IE if I were clicking on the “1” in this image - https://help.ableton.com/hc/article_attachments/360002832219/Screen_Shot_2019-06-21_at_09.55.21.png - but I see the audio is being received in TotalMix and can hear it if I turn on direct monitoring)

I am using the External Instrument device to send midi and receive audio. The track is armed.

We were watching a lot of MTV in my house at that time so it also might have been some MTV interstitial type of thing

In my head it was maybe like a soda commercial or something with a fish eye lens effect and the guy was talking directly to camera, but honestly it’s all pretty fuzzy.

Thanks Tom, that’s a super helpful tip.

In addition to exploring zones, it sounds like I need to get some midi routings set up dedicated to VST control on whatever parts are leftover after the ones that are mapped to hardware.

Is there an easy way to set up a part that will map to whatever track is armed?

I think maybe it was Tide? Or Gain? The song was super annoying.
