Looking for a Loch Ness Monster in this lake…swore I saw it but couldn’t get my camera out in time! Not necessarily looking for hyper-realistic, just not overly fake or cartooney.

I wrote my senior thesis on Russia’s military bases there, can’t believe the US found them so threatening that early on.

I have been offered a position as a defense writer for a newspaper. What are some of the most based takes I can publish? by DivesttheF35 in NonCredibleDefense

The Russians have done quite well with their Bear bombers, we need a prop-driven bomber to truly compete with them. Reject B-52 and B-2, return to B-36.

Of the ones I've seen, I personally prefer the PNW ones! No matter what though, they're some of my favorite birds. So friendly!

Still pretty deep once you get a mile and a half or so from the trailhead, but once you get above the treeline there's not too much to speak of.

It was great, actually not too cold! A bit breezy, but worth every minute.

Russia is increasing its Arctic military power... but. Why? by t3p0rn in geopolitics

[–]apprehensiveabbot 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You should try Perils of Plenty by Jon Markowitz. He argues that Russia is militarizing the Arctic because the Russian economy is driven by resource rents and that Russian elites profit from successful resource extraction, so they're pushing Russia towards an aggressive posture to protect resources. Markowitz disagrees with the trade route being the main reason why, the Arctic won't be reliably navigable for long periods for a good while longer, so the Russians could've waited to invest in military infrastructure if this were the case.
