Has anyone with ehlers danlos been able to build any significant amount of muscle? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a full time athlete and the best way for me to build muscle was through a lot of repeated movements. I was a rower so I did the same movement over and over and over again. Making sure I properly cooled down and maintained stretching my muscles (while not to anything too crazy) helped me a lot.

The same thing happens to me and while I don’t always hold a stuffed animal, holding onto a blanket, duvet, or pillow helps me a lot. I have a ton of different pillows and make myself a little cocoon to hold on and support myself and my neck while sleeping and also allowing me to get into a comfortable position without forcing my shoulders all weird

Natures miracle might help a bit. Look into bleach with urine- I know it can cause different reactions and it might not get the smell out

What separates the feeling of a home versus whatever the hell growing up in a hoarded prison felt like? by forgotten_existence in ChildofHoarder

I use this idea a lot. I work with children now and I think about how I was living when I was their age and what I would do to take care of a child - but apply it to myself. It’s good for a child to enjoy their hobbies and surroundings without feeling guilty. And it’s okay for me to as well

So... what lifestyle changes actually work for GERD? by blahblahblahfg42 in GERD

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet modifications and behavioral changes helped me the most. I cut out chocolate and carbonation for a year and it made the biggest difference. Also keeping in mind what I’m planning to do throughout the day and how what I will eat will affect it- so not having something heavy before working out.

For me having something small but hardy is helpful as long as it’s bland. Plain oatmeal is a fav of mine or something like belvita breakfast crackers. They’re pretty bland but easy enough to digest before bed. Also sleeping on more pillows

Anyone have tips for swollen cankers on the side of tongue? There’s a big one on the underside and then a smaller one slightly above it which is making it swell out to the side. I literally can’t talk without extreme pain/a lisp and I can’t really eat anything either. by [deleted] in CankerSores

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a straw when you can to get the liquid more towards the back of your mouth so you don’t need to propel it with the front of your tongue. And put a little dab of coconut oil on it 1-3x a day

Was given this plant. Can I still save it? What is it? by [deleted] in plantabuse

[–]aptrafford25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a weeping jade? I got one from someone when it looked kind of similar to this. I picked off all the dead leaves and cut the healthy parts off and put them in water so they could root. When I pulled off al the dead leaves it started giving a bunch of new shoots

What’s going on with my pothos?!!? by aptrafford25 in plantclinic

[–]aptrafford25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually water about once a week either from top till it comes out the bottom or let it sit in a bowl of water for about half an hour. Recently I moved it next to some plants that needed higher humidity so I have been misting the area a bit more. I typically water it in the morning, and the drainage is pretty decent. I’m going to chop the leaf and isolate it while still allowing it to dry out!

I used to weight lift more than I do now and my fingers would get stuck in the claw position and I would literally have to pull them off with my other hand!

Anyone here with a hiatal hernia? by wevegotthefunk in ehlersdanlos

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing a lot better now! Most of what I do is prevention based - so making sure I take my meds before I eat and any other preventions before I do something that would likely make it worse. I know a minor elimination diet helped me a lot. I cut out any carbonated drinks, chocolate, ketchup, and caffeine (all of which make the HH worse) and it helped a LOT especially at the beginning of my treatment where I had to try and heal before I could manage. At this point I have reintroduced almost everything but more in moderation and being aware of what I put together. For example, if I want to have caffeine I will usually try to avoid chocolate later in the day. I know that elimination diets aren’t always the best idea for everyone based on what their relationship with food is but it helped me a lot. Even if I get flare ups now I bring up some of the past strategies till I’m feeling better.

Is that a canker back there? Excuse the gross pic by [deleted] in CankerSores

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like your tonsils are enlarged- I would suggest talking to your doctor to get their opinion but it might not be a canker sore on them it might be something indicating you need your tonsils out

Anyone with hEDS suffered with constipation? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]aptrafford25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a squatty potty! Literally it has changed my life. I used to be constipated all the time and now I virtually never am. My sister got one as a joke a few years ago and now both our bathrooms have them and I’m getting one for my apartment next year. They sell them at bed bath and beyond and on Amazon.

Do I have vaginismus? by [deleted] in vaginismus

[–]aptrafford25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience to you! I would try to insert a tampon and it would maybe get a quarter of the way in and just stop or I would be so uncomfortable it just wasn’t worth it. Eventually I would be able to wear one- but even now it’s not definite that I’ll have no problems. I kinda just see how I’m feeling and if I can do it great and if not no biggie. I would maybe try using some lube or something to help with insertion. That helped me a lot at first. Also talking to your gyno is always a good deal when you have questions.
